"So what are you going to do?" Lucy asks, pouring hot water in my cold coffee.
"I don't know." I reply honestly.
"Don't know what?" Ann asks and sits next to me on the couch.
"James texted me that he wants to talk about things"
"Only now? It's been like what...5 months?" She asks confused.
"6 actually" Lucy corrects.
"What are the pros and cons?" Ann asks, taking out her phone to type the pros and cons.
"Well a pro is that I get to have closure...but a con is that he's gonna see this baby bump."
Ann stops typing, almost like she just realized how awful that con is.
"I mean...to be honest it's his child so isn't it illegal to keep his child away from him?" Lucy asks.
"No...yes...I don't know..." I shrug standing up to get water, I'm so thirsty all of a sudden.
Weird.
"Maybe we should ask Tim" I suggest.
"When does Tim ever have good ideas?" Ann asks, she continues, "Plus he's probably with his new girlfriend now anyways"
I choke on my water and nearly drop my cup while trying to catch my breath, "girlfriend?"
"Yeah... didn't he tell you?" Ann asks, chuckling at the fact.
What's funny?
"No he didn't" I frown and place my cup into the sink.
Ann says something else but I don't listen.
Why wouldn't he tell me? We are all friends aren't we? Who is this girl anyways? I bet she's ugly. Why do I even care? He can date whoever he wants for all I care.
Y'know what? Imma gonna see my ex.
"Guys?"
"Yeah?" Ann responds.
"Wait where's Lucy?" I ask
"She went to find Tim"
"Tell her there's no need, imma go see him"
"Who? Tim?" She asks.
"No stupid, James." I correct her, rolling my eyes at her.
!¡!¡!
I sit there waiting in Starbucks, he's late as usual. Always complained about this, I guess he hasn't changed.
The waiter comes to take my order so I decide to order a donut since they don't sell watermelons here.
The door opens but it's not him. Just a random old lady.
30 minutes has passed and I have already eaten my donut and ordered some coffee. Where is he?
The door opens again but this time it's him, he's wearing a black suit to a coffee shop. How awkward. He never had style or knew how to dress.
He's basically nothing without me.
I watch him look around for me, i decided to just sit there and wait. He made me wait 30 minutes, I can wait a little while longer.
He finally spots me and smiles, he hastily walks up to me and stands next to me, stretching his arm out for a hug.
I really wanted to. Even though I shouldn't. I should hate him. But I don't. I stood up and gave him a quick side hug.
That's when he noticed the bump. The bump that was showing itself with no shame at all.
He stares at it for a while.
"Are you-"
"Yep."
"Is it mi-"
"Yep."
"But the doctors said you can never get pregnant.." he stated the obvious.
"Guess they lied" I chuckle and carefully sit down.
He sits in front of me. He's still in shock. Maybe he's regretting his decision.
"I.. I have a kid?""No.. I have a kid"
His eyes widen in shock.
"C'mon Maddie you can't take my child away from me."
"Oh but I can." I grin, pretending to drink my already finished coffee I decided to order. Thank God this cup is styrofoam..
He begins to sob.
"Sobbing isn't gonna make me give you this child James."
"What can I do? I'll do anything!" He yells , the entire coffee shop glancing at us.
I sip my non-existent coffee again.
"You can start by not embarrassing us!" I whisper yell, when people carry on with their lives.
He looks around, "I'll pay child support"
"I don't need your money."
"C'mon Maddie, be honest with yourself you don't have a job, how will you survive?"
"Actually I do."
"Yeah right. And what's that?" He chuckles
What am I? Useless?
"I'm a personal assistant."
