All Millie could think about the next day was Ethan's touch and how his fingers expertly teased her. She almost lost it and almost begged for him. She was like a moth and he was the flame. She already knew he was the most dangerous of the Moretti brothers, but she just couldn't stay away from himJust thinking about him made her insides flip.
And even now, as she was taking a break with Alfie and Clara in Alfie's secret hideout, she couldn't shake Ethan off her mind.
Am I cheating on Aidan? Millie wondered. But she wasn't in a relationship with Aidan. They hadn't officially declared they were exclusive. She knew Aidan would never label whatever they had. He was out of her league, and she was just a maid. Like with Ethan, what she had with Aidan were secret moments.
"...right Millie?" Clara interrupted her thoughts. "Millie? Are you there?"
Startled, Millie blinked back. "What?"
Alfie grinned. "Lost in thought there, Millie?"
Millie shook her head and then smiled. "Yeah. Sorry, I was just thinking..." She turned to Clara. "What were you saying?"
Clara looked at her for a moment before continuing, "Since you obviously haven't been listening, I was asking Alfie what exactly happened to the three brothers."
Millie frowned. "What do you mean?"
Clara rolled her eyes. "Has your mind been somewhere else since we got here?"
Alfie chuckled, amused by Clara's annoyance at Millie's distraction.
"Sorry! I only got three hours of sleep, okay?" Millie explained, a bit annoyed too.
Clara wanted to probe further, but she knew it would be better if it were just the two of them. "Fine. I was asking Alfie why the brothers are under house arrest." She let out an exasperated sigh.
Alfie looked at them thoughtfully. "I'm surprised you don't know what happened."
"Well, Bert, the person we work for, didn't tell us anything about the Morettis," Clara explained. "We didn't even know we'd be working for them until we got here."
Alfie looked surprised. "Didn't you hear about the attack? I thought it was all over the news."
"The attack?" Millie asked.
"It was Don Hugo's 80th birthday," Alfie continued. "They had a private party in one of their villas in France."
"Wait!" Millie's heart raced. "Now I remember seeing that news on TV. An attack at an elite private party. But that's all I can recall." She couldn't believe it. "So it was their party?"
"Yeah. It was all over the news. Don Hugo Giramaldo Moretti's 80th birthday was attacked by armed unknown men. It was a heavily guarded and private event, but someone managed to find out about it," Alfie told them.
But for Clara, some things didn't add up. "And is that why they're here? All three of them?"
"Well, Ethan, Aidan, and Evan are heirs to his three main business domains. He has huge businesses in the South, East, and West. Ethan oversees all their family businesses in the east, while Evan takes the west, and Aidan takes the south. I guess Don Hugo couldn't risk any of his sons."
"Atlanta," Millie whispered to herself, but loud enough for Alfie to catch.
"Aidan lives there, but his businesses are spread across cities in the South. The same goes for Ethan in the East and Evan in the West," Alfie explained.
