prologue.

    ADALYN KALIVODA lived in a small town called Shadyside with her twin brother Simon, their older brother Timothy, and her parents. Shadyside was home to them, but to others, Shadyside was the center of death and carnage. No matter what happened, Adalyn and Simon called this deathly town home. Even when it turned into a ghost town after the first mass murder, Adalyn and Simon would dance in their street with wide smiles on their faces, singing, "We're at home, we're at home!"

    THAT WAS, until their mother became victim to one of the Shadyside killers. After that sorrowful night, Adalyn and Simon never danced and sang in the middle of their street. Adalyn met her boyfriend Mateo, and Simon turned to drugs with their friend Kate in order to save up money to get themselves, Adalyn, and Mateo out of Shadyside. That was their dream.

    BUT SOON, that dream was flushed down the drain when Timothy OD'd on Kate's drugs. Well - temporarily. He got brought back. With their determination to leave Shadyside and never turn back, Adalyn and Simon began working at a grocery store in order to get the money. They slowly started getting there, with Mateo trying to help along with supporting his mom and little sister. Kate and Simon still sold drugs - Timothy didn't stop them.

    AND BEFORE THEY KNEW IT, Adalyn and Mateo's three year anniversary was approaching! All they wanted to do was hang out with each other as the cheer and football captains. But, that would soon be interrupted as another killer decides to surface up and terrorize Adalyn and her friends.
