Sage's POV
Daddy said that Mommy was going to be away for a couple hours to do some work today. I was felt very sad that I had to be a part from her, I wondered if she was sad too. Daddy was dressing me up for the day in a romper and put my crocs on.
He said that we were going to go to the park today, but I honestly wasn't in the mood. I wanted to wait for Mommy to get home. What if she goes home and I'm not there?
"Come on, baby. Do you want me to push you on the swings?" Daddy asked as we walked up to the playground. It was still quite early in the morning so no one else was around.
Daddy lifted me up into the swings and told me to hold on tight. I used to sit in the baby swings, but now they are afraid I might get stuck because I'm getting bigger. Daddy was making funny faces at me as he pushed me, making me giggle slightly, but I was still down. Mommy would have fun at the park.
"What's wrong, baby?" Daddy asked, stopping me from swinging.
I shook my head and jumped down from the swing and I followed him to the bigger playground where there was a slide. I watched as Daddy climbed up the steps and up to the slide, he was too big to be doing this.
"Okay, come here," he whispered as I climbed onto his lap. We were at the tallest slide at the park and his arms tightened around me as we slid down.
"Wasn't that so much fun, Sagey?!" he exclaimed, placing me on his hip as we stood back up.
I nodded my head, laying it down onto his shoulder. I felt him rub my back and not it was making me tired. I let out a slight yawn, rubbing my eyes as Daddy stared at me.
"I think it's time, we go home. Time for a nap?" he suggested, making me nod my head.
Once we got into the car, his phone started ringing and I saw Mommy's picture pop up on the screen.
"Mommy!" I yelled, pointing to his phone.
Daddy chuckled as he answered the call, turning the volume up from the speakers of the car.
"Hey, how are you two?" Mommy asked, through the phone.
"Mommy! I miss you!" I yelled, kicking my feet from my seat.
I heard her chuckling on the other end, but I didn't know what was so funny; I wanted her to come home.
"We just got done at the park and we're headed back home to nap," Daddy said.
"Turns out, we're a little behind on time, so I probably won't be home until dinner time," Mommy said in a sad tone.
I gasped, crossing my arms. Daddy turned around in his seat and I avoiding him by turning the other way. My lips started to tremble, but I couldn't help it and soon enough, tears started pouring out of my eyes.
"I want Mommy! I want Mommy!" I trashed around, hitting my fists onto my car seat and kicking the front seats.
"Hey, Sage, it's okay," Daddy said, trying to calm me down by rubbing my leg.
I shook my head and started screaming as loud as I could in the car. Mommy wasn't talking and it was making me more upset.
"Hey, I'll call you back," Daddy said, making me shake my head.
"No! No! I want Mommy! I want to talk to Mommy!" I yelled out again.
"Hey, baby, can you calm down for Mommy? I'm still on the phone. You don't need to cry, I'll be home before you know it," she said in a calm tone.
I sat in my seat, trying to catch my breath as I felt my snot dripping to my lips and I wiped it off with my arm. Daddy sighed, grabbing the tissues from the compartment and reached over to wipe my face.
"I-I-I want M-Mommy," I whimpered looking at him with my big teary eyes.
"I know my love, Mommy will come soon," he soothed, kissing my forehead.
Soon after, Daddy ended the call, telling Mommy that me hearing her voice is probably making it worse for me right now. I was very upset, but too tired to fight against it anymore.
"Come on, let's go to our bed," Daddy said as we walked up the stairs.
"Why does Mommy have to work all the time? Does she want to get away from me?" I asked, looking at him as he changed me into a pair of pajamas.
He shook his head, cupping my face. "Mommy does not want to be away from you. She hates being away from you, but she still needs to work, no matter what. I promise you, she will be home soon, and then she won't be leaving for a long time," daddy whispered, kissing my forehead as I laid down onto the bed.
I cuddled into Mommy's pillow, smelling her scent. It smelled exactly like her. I felt Daddy pat my bottom as he started humming. I shut my eyes, feeling relaxed since Daddy closed all of the blinds, making it dark. I felt Daddy slowly rubbing over my cheeks and I cuddled closer into Mommy's pillow as I let sleep come over me.
I woke up annoyed that someone was disturbing my sleep. I felt someone move me over and got into bed with me. I reached for Daddy, but he wasn't moving either and started slapping his face with my eyes still shut.
"Sage, stop honey," he mumbled and that's when I heard a familiar laugh.
I shot straight up and felt next to me, knowing that it was Mommy. I tightened my grip around her and stuffed my face into her chest, feeling her stroke my hair.
"I'm here, baby. Mommy's here." she whispered into my ear.
