Matilda arrives home, her eyes bloodshot, her face pale,
"Hey." Matilda says to her dad,
"Hey what's the matter? And what happened to your nose?!" her dad asks,
"It's nothing, i'm fine, where's Tucker?" she asks, shaking her head,
"He's in his room." her dad points upstairs while drying dishes,
"Hey do you know where some of my beers have gone? I swear i had 4 rows of 7 on the top shelf!" he continues. Matilda shrugs,
"I don't know. I don't drink beer." Matilda walks towards the staircase,
"You shouldn't be drinking at all!" her dad yells. Matilda barges into Tucker's room,
"Woah, knock please." he orders, wiping his nose. Matilda rolls her eyes,
"Why do your friends think it's okay to ruin everything me and my friends go to?" she abruptly asks,
"What? Why? What's happened?" Tucker asks, sitting on his desk,
"What happened? It seems your little friend Rafe doesn't mind hitting me!" she barges out of the room, slamming his door,
"He's still mad about last year." Tucker opens his door following Matilda,
"What the fact I couldn't stand him anymore?" she asks,
"You dumped him and us for pogues." Tucker stated,
"I left them for one year, and look where it got me." she snaps,
"You and Rafe had an official thing going on and you expect to blow it off for who, JJ Maybank and get away with it?!" Tucker gets in her face. Matilda shoves him away,
"I blew him off for my real friends." she tries to walk away, Tucker grabs her arm,
"Real friends, or was you just desperate for someone easy?" she slaps him,
"You don't even know what they have been through, and you don't care." she slams her bedroom door,
"You're right i don't." Tucker kicks the floor, walking back into his room with a sore face.
Matilda opens up her window, diving out with a large bag. She walks a few blocks down of houses, walking up a driveway. She knocks on a glass door,
"Hey! So you're coming to midsummer right?" Kiara opens her door, smiling,
"I mean, yeah!" Matilda laughs showing her, the bag,
"I'm dreading it, nobody knows how much i hate people who don't give a shit about the environment." Kiara states, walking to her room,
"I hate looking like a bitch who looks down on people, especially our people." Matilda sits on Kiara's bed,
"You seem stressed." Kiara lays next to her,
"I had a fight with Tucker, he said Rafe is still mad about last year." Matilda frowns,
"What even happened last year?" Kiara asks, standing up to hang Matilda's dress on the mirror,
"A lot." Matilda sighs, Kiara looks at her confused. Matilda shakes her head,
"A lot to process." she continues,
"Anyway, although he's gonna be there." Kiara lifts Matilda up,
"I'm going to hide i swear." she laughs,
"We're going to make you look gorgeous!" Kiara grabs her dress. Matilda walks out of Kiara's ensuite bathroom, her dress floral,
"Oh my!" Kiara smiles,
"I look like a girl who just complained about a staff member because of their poor clothes." Matilda looks in the mirror,
"You kinda do, but at least that girl is pretty!" Kiara stares at her in the mirror. Matilda laughs,
"I'm gonna do our hair!" she sits at a dressing table. While Matilda finishes her hair Kiara gets changed,
"This is disgusting." she states,
"I know it's just horrible. I'm asking you to relax and go to a fun party." Kiara's mom says,
"I look like a bourgeoisie pig." Kiara grunts,
"Will you please not worry about socioeconomic injustice for one night?" Anna asks, putting her earrings in,
"Mom people not three miles from here have no power, no running water, and we're going to midsummers, that's so tone deaf." Kiara resists,
"Baby do you know how hard we had to work to hey into the Island club." Anna asks,
"Yeah mom, how could i forget? You had to grovel for like ten years.",
"Twelve, we also had to cough up a huge chunk of dough. And do you know why we did that?" Anna asks,
"To keep up with the Joneses?" Kiara sarcastically says,
"No. So you could have the same experiences i did as a child, honey do you know what the island club is?" Anna walks up to Kiara,
"A factory farm for debutantes."
"It is a nice place, with nice people, where you can do fun stuff."
"With out of touch rich people, while the island sinks slowly into the ocean."
"Okay i want you to put on your party face Kie if you wanna live, and you Matilda!" Anna walks out of the room. Matilda and Kiara look at each-other.
"I mean i guess she's right." Matilda stands up,
"Let's do this i guess." Kiara sighs.
