As dawn broke over the devil's kingdom, an eerie light filtered through the thick curtains of Taehyung's chamber.
The air was still, carrying a slight chill that seeped into the room. Taehyung awoke, his heart heavy with the weight of his new reality.
He dressed carefully, donning the regal attire that had been prepared for him, and made his way to the grand dining hall.
The vast room was filled with an unsettling silence, broken only by the occasional clink of silverware as the servants set the table for breakfast.
At the head of the table sat Jungkook, his dark eyes cold and unreadable as he glanced up at Taehyung's entrance.
The prince's presence was acknowledged with a mere flicker of his gaze before he turned his attention back to the documents spread before him.
"Good morning," Taehyung said, his voice carrying a tentative hope for a friendly start.
Jungkook didn't bother to look up. "You're late," he replied, his tone devoid of any warmth.
Taken aback by the harsh greeting, Taehyung faltered. "I... I'm sorry. I wasn't aware of the exact time I was expected."
Jungkook finally lifted his head, his expression hardening. "In this kingdom, you are expected to be punctual. Do not make me wait again."
Taehyung nodded, suppressing the hurt that threatened to surface. "I understand. It won't happen again."
Without another word, Jungkook returned to his papers, effectively dismissing Taehyung.
The prince took a seat at the far end of the table, feeling the sting of Jungkook's coldness. The meal was brought out by the servants, but the atmosphere remained icy.
As they ate in silence, Taehyung couldn't shake the feeling of being an unwelcome intruder in this dark, foreign land.
The warmth and kindness he had hoped for seemed a distant dream, replaced by an unyielding reality that gnawed at his resolve.
When breakfast concluded, Jungkook stood abruptly. "You will be shown to the library. Study our history and traditions. If you are to remain here, you must understand what it means to be bound to the devil's kingdom."
Taehyung rose as well, nodding in compliance. "I will do my best."
Jungkook's gaze lingered on Taehyung for a moment, "See that you do," he said sharply before striding out of the hall, leaving Taehyung alone with his thoughts.
As Taehyung followed a servant to the library, he couldn't help but wonder why Jungkook was so distant, so unfeeling.
In the solitude of the library, surrounded by ancient tomes and scrolls, Taehyung immersed himself in the history of the devil's kingdom.
The more he learned, the more he understood the weight of the alliance he had forged. He vowed to prove his worth, to show Jungkook that he was more than just a sacrificial pawn.
Yet, as the day wore on, the memory of Jungkook's coldness lingered, casting a shadow over his heart.
Taehyung knew he had to tread carefully, for the path he had chosen was fraught with danger and uncertainty.
