I stare at the note, waiting for the fingerprint results to come back. When I hear a chime come from my phone I grab it. Dr. Jones sent the attachment which says that there weren't any fingerprints on the note other than the ones I left. I sigh. I hoped that I could talk with the person who had left the note.
I checked all of the victims' wrists, which had the word raven burned into their skin, only Dillion Beaker had an owl. I felt ashamed for not checking sooner. Maybe Dr. Jones is right about me being a terrible detective. Probably why he came to Raven's peak anyway. To oversee me and, with a moment's chance, take credit for the whole case.
Dr. Jones has taken credit before I let out a sigh once again and walked into the living room. Salem meows."Where have you been, Mr.?" I exclaim. I haven't seen Salem since the first day I arrived. I pick him up, he begins purring.
"Do you want some tuna?" I ask him, he meows in response. Aunt Carol and Ella are t in town enjoying the festival. I decided to stay home, my nerves still high from the thought that someone could be watching my every move.
When we make it to the kitchen, I pull out a can of tuna for Salem. Salem loves tuna. He kept meowing and pawing the can as I opened it. Salem doesn't hesitate to devour the tuna.
I take this opportunity to make myself a sandwich. Once I make it, I take a seat on the couch and watch TV. I enjoy the peaceful quietness of the day. Strange, but still some time to relax and get my thoughts together. I started getting comfortable. Then I heard a knock on the front door. I walked to the door and opened it.
It was Mark; I welcomed him inside. "I know you had a rough day yesterday, so I brought you some of my grandma's homemade brownies, I know how much you love them," he states, handing me the plate full of them. "I'm surprised you still remembered," I say, taking the plate into the kitchen.
Mark follows, "A nice place your aunt has here. Very cozy," he comments. I nod. It's nice Mark came to drop off the brownies, though I wanted some time. I didn't feel like socializing. I sighed, I was about to ask Mark to leave when Ella and Aunt Carol walked through the front door.
Ella looks between us and smirks then starts helping Aunt Carol bring in bags of stuff they had gotten from the festival. I regret not going. I love looking around and enjoying the unique stuff in the stands. I brush off the feelings of regret. I thank Mark one last time for the brownies. Ella then invited him to stay for dinner.
While we eat, my mind travels back to the case, the note, and found found on the victims. What could ravens and owls mean? Who could've sent the letter? How did they know that I would be gone? My mind keeps going blank.
"Emma? Are you okay?" Ella asks, bringing me out of my thoughts. I nod. "I'm going to go to my room," I stated, telling everyone goodbye.
Before leaving for my room, I grab a brownies to take with me. Once in my room, I grab my laptop and start doing some research. The bright screen started making my head hurt. I began to get dizzy, and my vision went blurry, and soon enough I passed out.
