As the sun shone brightly in the aloof winter afternoon that day, the two best friends chatted as usual, standing on the back-of-the-school bridge.
"But I thought you liked tall girls? That's why I gave Ishani your contact number." Mahi said, more like accused Cabir, who was busy eating his chocolate cupcake which Mahi's mother sent for him.
"When have I ever told you that I like tall girls? You assumed it yourself." He muttered in between the bites. But it was enough for Mahi to hear.
"But you always taunt me on my height and talk very sweetly with Ishani. So I thought you might be into her?" She asked again, eyeing his cupcake. She had already finished her's in the lunch period in school.
"Me? Into her? I'd rather drink a bottle of vinegar than liking that arrogant witch." He snickered and got a slap from Mahi on his arm.
"Ouch!"
"You deserve that. Ishani is an amazing girl. What made you think she's arrogant?" Being a friend of Ishani since last five years, Mahi felt the need to take her side in front of her best friend of ten years.
"Everyone knows it. I don't need to think it. Plus, I don't talk sweetly with her. How I talk with her is called being sarcastic." He replied with a chuckle.
"Oh, but how would you know what sarcasm is, no miss diligent?" And with that, he got another slap, this time on his head from his best friend.
"I hate you for real." Mahi said and started walking away. But not before snatching the half eaten cupcake from Cabir's hands.
"Hey! That's mine. Where are you taking it to?" He shouted as he ran towards her. For a short girl like her, she was surprisingly fast enough.
"I bought it for you, but you don't deserve it, so I'm taking it back, Mr. Not-so-diligent." And with that being said, Mahi winked at him and started running away.
"You little fox! Wait till I catch you." Cabir shouted again and ran behind her, with a broad smile on his lips.
