Friends fight.

People fight.

There isn't shame to be had in such situations, at least not in the long term.

This is simply the result of human nature. If any two people are to spend an extended amount of time around one another, then a disagreement will surely arise at some point or another. No two people have a set of ideals that align perfectly, and that is an absurdity so evident even a child would understand the innate wrongness of it. If such an occurrence was even remotely commonplace, then the world would be a far bleaker place because of it.

People are flawed. We are incomplete. The crux of our lives lies in finding those missing pieces. Whether it be through duty, ambition, success, religion, or even simple mortal possessions, almost all seek to fill that missing place in our heart.

So people bond. No longer does one need to cast aside their own internal weakness, nor view it as a blighted tumor on the soul. People cannot remove each other's weaknesses, and yet they can certainly compensate for them. That is the greatest strength of humanity.

Group projects suck.

For while people can be supportive at the best of times, resting your fate in the hands of somebody else is not a comfortable thing. Discomfort breeds frustration, and in turn frustration breeds conflict. And what better place for conflict than a disagreement between two teenagers? That brings us to our current scene, a street near 'Kamihama City University Affiliated School', a middle school ubiquitous with overall quality and success. If one were to have any objections to such claims, then they certainly would have forgotten them by the time they finished saying the name of the place.

Two girls stood opposite each other, each donning a red and white school uniform. Perfects mirrors of both each other and picnic blankets. Strands of hair fluttered in the wind, and their fists clenched as they stared down their inevitable foe. Each stood rigid and straight, staring each other down like a pair of gunslingers in an old western film. With some added touches, of course, for historically, gunslingers did not don Japanese school uniforms.

The clock struck 7:00.

On the left, a young lady by the name of Kotonoha, looking (and acting) rather sheepish. It was her lack of effort in a recent joint project between the two of them that had landed their friendship in hot water to begin with.

On the right, a frustrated looking girl by the name of Sekai. Her sudden anger, while fair, had resulted in her breaking off her friendship with Kotonoha via a very loud and very dramatic proclamation the day prior.

"Our friendship is done!" She had yelled. "We are totally through! Enjoy being alone again!"

With that, she stormed off, leaving a very baffled Kotonoha behind, as well as a few bothered classmates who really wanted nothing to do some overexaggerated squabble.

"So. Um? Sorry?" Kotonoha fidgeted with her hands, eyes memorizing the patterns of the concrete beneath her feet.

"Sorry for what?" Sekai shot back, spewing forth the anger that had been stewing in her hours prior. "Sorry for screwing up my grade because you wanted to watch some cruddy romance show all day again? Geez, you moron! You've been doing this since the fourth grade! I'm s-starting to think..."
