Alexandre sat alongside me on the loveseat. I was waiting for his demeanor to break. There was no way he expected me to believe in vampires and that they just so happen to be one of them. With a swift motion of his hand, not once breaking eye contact he dismissed his brothers. The white tips of his canines began to protrude from his upper mouth and cascade down to the button of his lower lip. Eyes wide, I was flabbergasted. Without thinking I creeped my free hand up to his fangs and gently brushed my pointer finger and the edge. A small slashed instantly appeared across the skin that made contact with Alexandre's fangs. For a brief moment his eyes flashed crimson red and then returned to normal black. I jumped back in my seat, frightened. My skirt lifted at the front slightly due to the sudden movement causing my panties to peak out. He couldn't get far. His hold on my hand never wavered. My heart began to palpitate. Simultaneously he used my hand that he had taken in his to address my skirt. With his other hand he took my finger, placing it gently against his cool lips. The slice quickly disappeared as though it was never there. All the while never breaking eye contact. I nearly fainted, releasing the breath I was unaware I was holding. He was really a vampire.
"Vampire." I breathed out breathlessly.
"Sumvitana, this may be a great deal of information to digest. However, I only speak the truth. I would not deceive you when it comes to such pertinent matters as our race."
"Our race?" I questioned
¨Yes, our race. You are in a way one of us."
"How? I believe I would know if I was a vampire."
Alexandre took my hand in his and peered into my soul with his soot soaked eyes. His hand was firm yet gentle to touch. The coolness of his touch sent a shiver rippling up my spine. I wanted to always keep his hand in mine.
"You have not completed your awakening. Around your 20th birthday your vampire blood will awaken and begin to consume your human blood. Sumvitana, your mother, Auviatana was a close acquaintance of my mother Eleanor. Before your birth she spent a great deal of time here with your father. Henri DeLacour. Henri was my father Thierry Etienne Leroy Beaumont first general and longtime confidant. Sumvitana you are in danger. Creatures from all over will soon come for you. We have done all we could to mask your presence from others. However, with your awakening near your presence will only grow stronger. Attracting beasts that desire to consume your blood."
"What? Why would they want my blood?" I shook my head in confusion.
"A young vampire entering the awakening blood is a kind of life enrichment for other beings. Humans would compare it to the Fountain of Youth. Your blood would grant the consumer great power and immortality."
A greater sense of the blood flowing through my veins fell upon me. I could feel the intense whooshing of the liquid as my heart pumped gushes of it through my arteries. The rhythmic thump thump, thump thump of my heart beat that once only proved to me that I was allowed another breath, now was the epitome of my possible early demise.
"The war between the vampire and Fae has decreased our kind greatly. The Fae fueled by revenge and the hatred of your mother and fathers' betrayal of their kind. The Fae is our only equal foe. Their existence dates to pre- vampire. They were the first dwellers of the earth. Their power and numbers are unknown to other beings due to their secrecy and ancient origins. For millennia all beings had followed one understanding. Never cross a Fae."
"What does that have to do with my parents?" I asked.
"You mother Auvitana was the second princess in line for the throne. When she met your father Henri they fell in love. Engaging in a forbidden romance. When your mother discovered her pregnancy, she came to my father to seek refuge. She knew the Fae Queen would not let your father, her or you exist in this world. Thierry considered Heri to be a brother. He could not refuse the Fae Princess request."
