He pulls me into a tight embrace, and his eyes locked into mine. 'This man. I don't know what it is about him, but I can't seem to stay away. if this is wrong, then I don't want to be right.'

"I-I want..."

He leans in until our lips just barely brush, sending tingles down my spine. "What do you want, baby?"

I looked straight into his eyes and took a deep breath, aware my answer would change everything between us.

But before I can admit what's been on my mind ever since I met him, a different, familiar voice chilled me to the bone.

"What's going on here?!!"

'is that my husband?!'

........Ten days ago...

Although being a senator wife had it perks, the downsides are far greater. Every moment of my life is planned out and scrutinized, every wrinkle scoffed at. "Good morning, Jessica."

I flashed a wide smile at the receptionist, who looked almost startled to see me. Her cheeks are flushed, and her moth remains open right until the elevator doors close between us. 'What's up with her?'

As soon as I reached the third floor, I walked straight into Eli's office and glance down at my watch. 'Eli and I are supposed to have a sit down interview with national news today to discuss his campaign. we're running a bit late-we'll have to hurry if we want to make it on time.'

I opened my mouth to announce my arrival, but the sight before me stops me in my tracks. 'is that Lora, his personal assistant? No wait, I think her name is Lexa.'

She's half sitting on the edge of the desk, facing my husband. when I noticed her hand rubbed him in between his legs, it doesn't take me long to realize what is going on.

I frowned hard. 'Seriously? again?'

I slam the door shut behind me, and the sound made a defening metal clang. "Good morning, Eli."

"Ashely!"

Eli immediately stands up, which sent Lana tumbling to the ground.

"Ouch!" it didn't take her long to get back on her feet, and her eyes grows wide when she notices me. "Mrs. Nelson?!" She quickly composed herself. "It's so nice to see you again!"

I nod in her direction. "Lexa."

"Oh, it's Lana actually, ma'am. But that's close enough! Wow, you look lovely, Mrs. Nelson!" Lana fixed her blouse, then runs a hand through her hair, giving me a big, nervous smile.

'When I look at my husband's mistress, I pity her. poor girl. she can't really believe this is the first time I've walked in on something like this, can she?'

"I forgot you were coming, darling. Time must've gotten away from me. we have that...?"

"The interview with the national news." Lana responded. Eli shoots her a smirk and she blushes.

"What exactly has you do preoccupied, dear?" 'or should I say who?'

"You know, the usual. I'm up to my neck in paperwork lately." He sights tiredly.

I smirked. "If course. And what was Lexa doing In her?"

"Ms. Hail was just helping me—"

He wanted to continue but was cut off by Lana. "There it is!" Lana bent down and picks up something from off the floor. "I found my earring. I knew I'd lost it in here yesterday."

Eli smiled too. "Ah, there we go."

I smiled. "Lexa, sweetheart, that's a grain of rice from the lunch I packed for my husband. He's a bit of a messy eater, so I'm sure there's more where that came from."

Eli narrowed his eyes at me, and Lana's face heat up with embarrassment. "Wow, I guess you are right. It must be in here somewhere." She continued looking for something which is not lost in the first place.

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. "Maybe it got stuck in my husband's zipper?"

"Ashley!"

I looked at the frowning Eli. "What? Maybe you should zip it up if you do not want more attention to it. That would be awfully awkward to look at on national television.

"I should really get back to work. I don't want to take anymore of your time." Lana said to me before turning to Eli. "Let me know if you need anything Mr. Nelson?"

"Thank you, Lana." He gave her a big smile.

"Oh. Before I go, here's your mail, sir!" Lana placed a stack of papers on Eli's desk and quickly hurries out the door.

Eli turned to me. "Was that really necessary?"

"No, I suppose not. Hasn't anyone told you not to sleep with your staff? How unprofessional."

Eli rolls his eyes then changes the subject. "Have you gone over the answers I gave you for the interview? I left a list on the counter in the kitchen."

"I looked at the list, yes."

"And?"

"I think you'd prefer I stay silent. A good wife should be seen and not heard. isn't that right, dear?"

Eli glares at me. "I really lucked out marrying you, didn't I? Always so obedient and reliable."

"I aim to please."

Eli picked up some stacks of letters from his desk. I checked the time again. "We should really get going."

"Just let me go through these letters, then we can leave."

Eli throws several letters into the trash without even giving them a second glance. when he gets to an unlabeled envelope, he pauses.

"Eli, we really don't have time for this."

He looked at me without turning. "Stop nagging, will you?" He opens the letter and unfolds the paper inside of it, reading the content carefully. His face turns white and he looks up at me in alarm. "The interview is cancelled. You need to leave right now."

"Excuse..."

"Do not argue with me, Ashley! Go straight home, I have something that I need to deal with."

'I've never seen him so worked up. He almost looks...afraid.'

Against my better judgement I actually listend to Eli and head back home.
