Chapter Six | The Plan For Revenge
I arrived at Damon's place, a charming two-story house that was surrounded by a beautiful maintained garden. His mother welcomed me with a warm smile at the door, mentioning that Damon was in the treehouse, watching a marathon of horror movies.
I climbed up the treehouse carefully, trying not to disturb Damon too much, but as I opened the hatch and stepped inside, both Amara and Damon jumped up with a startled scream. Their eyes widened in surprise, and for a moment, the treehouse seemed smaller than I had imagined.
"Why do you look like you've seen a ghost?" Amara exclaimed, her eyes widening as she steadied herself with a hand over her heart after my inadvertent scare.
"Thanks guys. I really needed to hear that." I managed to say through the smeared zombie makeup, tears streaming down my face. The weight of what I just witnessed suddenly hit me hard. "He took him back. Ryan took Avian back." My voice cracked with emotion, and I felt a lump form in my throat as I struggled to hold back more tears.
Amara and Damon rushed to me, enveloping me in a comforting hug. "Aww, Cady," Amara said softly, rubbing my back gently as I wiped away my tears. "I'm so sorry that evil bitch did that to you." As I glanced over, I saw Amara rolling her eyes and discreetly exchanging a five-dollar bill with Damon.
I pulled back from the hug and raised my eyebrow. "Wait, why are you giving him money? Did you two bet on this?" I asked, eyeing them both expectantly for an answer.
"I mean—yeah, we did..." Damon admitted, tucking the 5 dollar bill into his pocket. "But hey, we already told you Ryan is evil, and he hits you where it hurts the most. It was only a matter of time until you figured it out. And the only reason I won the bet was because it just so happened to be this week."
"But why would he do that? I don't understand... He said he was going to talk to him for me, not kiss him!" I exclaimed, searching their faces for answers as Damon just shrugged his shoulders.
"Because, Cady, he's a life ruiner. He ruins people's lives. Mine, Nick, Damon, the entire school and now yours. I know this might come off harsh, but what made you think you were special?" Amara asked, rubbing her forehead in frustration.
