chapter one,, never really quit, she'd just says she did

Staring at her reflection in the mirror, hands running down her new uniform in discomfort. All summer, Leilani Bennet had been hiding behind closed doors, not wanting to get out for others to see her. She couldn't deal with the change, there was nothing Leilani Bennet hated more than her life changing. It terrified her, she wanted to be trapped in the moment forever, trapped in her teenage body no matter how hard her life was.

But now she had to get out the house, now Lani had to attend a completely new school with completely new people and a completely different country. And Lani knew she was completely fucked considering she knew fuck all about the place or the people.

The summer had been tough. It was a time where people were filled with laughter and happiness, going out on walks and exploring the weirdest places discovered. The summer was usually the time for Lani to shine, the time where her soul brightens up and starts to feel happy for the first time in a while. But the brunettes summer was completely different, different than it usually was. She spent most of it questioning her self worth, sleepless nights staring at the celling. Her own life, thoughts over flowing her mind on who she was or what she was doing with her life.

And although her mum claimed that moving to Dublin would be better for all of them, considering she was taking them both back to her family, she had still been drowning herself in bottles of alcohol. Nights blacked out on the sofa, no clue where or what her children were doing. Everything was a complete mess, unwashed dishes and all.

Leilani stayed in the comfort of her own room, ignoring and pushing away every single one of her problems to the side. The cds and vinyles scattered across the room, band posters plastered onto her walls, an electric and an acoustic guitar stood to the side ( just like any problem she faced had been ), clothes piled in the corner of the room. Lani's bedroom completely mirrored her as a person, or so Lani felt as if. She romanticised a quiet life half the time, finding no better comfort than being in her room and blasting her favourite albums on full volume.

Lani would much rather stay at home in the comfort of her own company rather than meet and talk to new people. It terrified her, she didn't want to be percieved as a raging bitch or a right weirdo. If the brunette could have one super power, it would be to read peoples minds so her mind could rest for once in a while and stop completely overthinking any interraction she had.

Lani sighed, knowing that if she didn't start making her way down she'd be late. The girl grabbed her headphones, putting on some radiohead before finding her brother.

"Hey Charlie." Lani said softly, giving the four year old brother a hug. The boy instantly hugged her back, the brunette lifting him up and holding him in her arms. "How you feeling? You feeling good? Nervous?" The boy nodded into her shoulder, playing with Lani's hair. "You'll be fine, don't worry Char. I'm sure everyone will love you, and if they don't they're a bunch of no good cunts."

"Hey, no swearing." Charlie laughed, shaking his head in disappointment at his older sister.

"Sorry sorry, I forgot." Lani laughed, kissing his forehead before putting her brother back down. "Now I've got to run, or else I'll be late."

"Are you not going to eat?" He asked innocently, looking up at his sister.

"I'll grab sommat on the way there." Lani smiled, ruffling his hair. "I'll see ya later Chip."

"Bye Lani have fun at school." He smiled, waving Lani goodbye. He blew her a kiss, and the brunette pretended to catch it. She waved him goodbye before walking out the door, taking a deep breath to try and calm down her nerves.
