From nothing to less

Chapter 1

'She is gone! She left because you lost our house! It's your fault she is gone you piece of shit.' Leo yells at his father. 'Yea blame me again. You are just like your fucking mother. Both of you are just wastes of space and oxygen.' Leo's father yells slurring his words as he is drunk again. 'Says the biggest waste of space in this fucking house! You are CONSTANTLY drinking or always high and gamble away every fucking cent she brought into this house and betting our house was the final straw for her. You, you piece of shit is the one that should have disappeared.' Leo says as he pushes his father. Suddenly without warning Leo's father breaks the empty beer bottle next to him on the table and attacks Leo and cuts him in his face on his left cheek. 'You still live with me you piece of shit! You will not talk to me like that do you understand me? I am still your father and for as long as you are here you will follow my rules!' Leo's dad snaps blood dripping off the beer bottle in his hand. Leo does not react other than just turning around and going to what used to be his room since his father lost the house in a poker game.

In his room Leo takes off his shirt and as he looks in the mirror he touches the new scratch in his face. Then his hand moves to his chest where he has many scars ranging from scratch marks to cigarette burns and even a stab wound on his stomach where his mom tried to kill him when he was 12. He looks at his face again and looks at the big scar he has going across his right eye and cheek where his mom cut him when he tried to run away from home at 15. He hates his mother but still worries about where she went and is still scared for her safety even after 17 years of abuse and scars. He heads to his bed and lays down looking at the ceiling covered in posters of anime girls he likes. His parents never understood the obsession he had with the girls and always tell him to remove them because its purvey and uncultured but he always ignored them as it wasn't there for the reasons they thought. Hanna the blond one on the left is there because she escaped an abusive husband and made a name for herself in the anime "A new story", Ichigo the red haired girl to the right was raised in an abusive household and could never have kids because of the drugs her dad forced her to take but after he died she got the help she needed and sobered up saving and adopting kids from similar home situations in the anime "The broken cycle" and Siesta the blue haired girl in the middle saved her sister from being sold as a slave in the medieval anime "The broken past and its evil ways". The girls aren't there because they were pretty or he was weird, they were there as heroes, heroes he saw himself as one day breaking free from this prison he was held in for the last 17 years.

-I can't believe it's been 5 months since she left- Leo thinks as he scans some items at his part time job he had to get to support him and his deadbeat dad after his mom ,who used to be the breadwinner in the family, had disappeared after his dad lost their house in a poker bet.

After his shift Leo walks to their flat that he has rents since they had to move out of their old house. As Leo unlocks and opens the door Leo realizes the flat is pitch black and not a single light is on which is unusual as his dad is supposed to be home and never leaves till this late at night. As he switches on the living room light Leo sees his dad passed out on the table with a pill bottle next to him on the table. Leo gets mad and yells at his dad for going out and buying pills with the money he had given to him for food. After about 5 minutes of continuous yelling Leo realises that his father has not snored once since he got home which was highly unusual seeing as his dad always snored loudly. He slowly walked closer and saw that his father wasn't breathing but was not that cold yet and scrambled to get his phone out of his pocket and called 119 for an ambulance. '119 what is the nature of your emergency?' Asked the operator as he answered the phone. 'I think my father overdosed on medication he bought and might be dead or dying as he isn't breathing but he isn't that cold yet.' Leo says shocked and not believing the situation he is in. 'Okay please give me your address and tell me how long has he been like that.' Says the operator typing away. 'I live in flat B5 on Stelling road and I don't know how long he has been like this as I have just gotten home from work.' Leo answers. 'Okay an ambulance is on its way to you as we speak please stay calm and let them in as soon as they arrive please.' The operator says before hanging up the phone when Leo said he would do so. After 5 minutes Leo heard distant sirens being thankful the hospital wasn't that far from where they live. When the ambulance arrives the 2 nurses rush up the stairs and straight to Leo's flat and to where Leo's dad is laying unresponsive. After 15 minutes of trying CPR they pronounce him dead and put him in a body bag. In those 15 minutes a police car pulled up to the address to find out more information on the situation. 'Hello son are you a resident at this address?' An officer asks Leo as they arrive on scene. 'Yes I am, the person is my father.' Leo answers. 'I see... I am sorry for your loss. Would you mind answering a couple questions for us?' The officer asked with a sad tone in his voice. 'I appreciate it and I don't mind at all. Please come in.' Leo says as he steps aside and gestures for the officers to come in. The officers enter and split up. The first officer starts to ask Leo some questions. 'When did you find your father in this state?' The officer asks taking out his notebook and pen. 'More or less 20 minutes ago.' Leo answers. 'Where were you when the incident happened?' The officer asked. 'I was at school and at work.' Leo answered. After what felt like an eternity the officer finally said 'Okay so the final couple questions then we'll be on our way. As you said your father had a big drinking and drug problem. Have you noticed any odd behaviour from him at all in the last couple weeks? Any reason for him to end it all by chance?'. 'Not at all officer it's been his exact same drinking self. These pills were the first odd thing he did since my mother left and I have seen no signs of him wanting to end It all at all.' Leo answered relieved at the fact he can finally take a break and get something to eat as he hasn't had anything to eat since breakfast. The officers thank him for his time and leaves to the station to make a full report on everything. Leo closes the door behind the officer and heads to clean the mess his father had made that day and to start dinner for himself.
