Inkyu's monstrous form blurred across the room, a whirlwind of claws and fury aimed straight at Y/n. But the Occult Club wasn't about to let their friend get hurt. Daku yelled a phrase, a motivation of some sort for their meticulously prepared ritual.
The air crackled with strange energy as the Occult Club members held hands in a tight circle. An ancient symbol, glowing a faint blue, pulsed into existence above them, drawn with chalk on the dusty floorboards. It was a forbidden ritual, one they'd only dared to practice in secret – borrowing a sliver of power from surprisingly willing entities to combat a greater evil.
As the chanting reached a crescendo, the symbol flared brightly. A surge of otherworldly energy coursed through the Occult Club members, empowering them. Chojo raised a fist in the air and a bunch of hands shattered the concrete below them, aiming for Inkyu.
Supana's eyes flashed with a bright white light, her hand now a pale white like snow, covered with black veins that disappeared into the sleeves of her top, wove intricate patterns that deflected Inkyu's dark aura like a shield.
Kokuma exuded an unknown aura, she was dressed in a grey dress hands with fireballs inside, her voice ringing out with the power of the incantation. She shot canons towards Inkyu who had started to take damage by now, clutching her sides in agony as black goo started to seep from it.
Inkyu, frustrated by her inability to land a blow, shrieked in fury. Her dark energy lashed out, tearing gouges into the walls, but it couldn't penetrate the protective barrier formed by Supana's magic.
Just as Inkyu prepared to unleash another attack, Shin, out of nowhere, summoned a blazing dark object in his hand and aimed it at Inkyu. A searing hiss escaped the vampire-succubus as she recoiled, clutching at the smoking wound.
Supana continued yelling words, a different language, Y/n presumed as she could not make out anything the girl was chanting.
The sight of Shin injuring Inkyu seemed to snap something within the monstrous creature. Her rage morphed into a primal fear. With a deafening screech, she turned and bolted towards the basement window, her inhuman form blurring through the shadows.
Y/n took this opportunity and lept towards Sakyu, a crystal in hand. "Oi!" she yelled to the wailing creature. "One wrong move and I kill her. What's it gonna be? You want your sister back or are you gonna keep on playing games with us?"
Turning slowly, Inkyu met Y/n's gaze. The inhumane crimson glow had dimmed, replaced by a flicker of something akin to desperation. "Don't..." she rasped, her voice ragged and laced with pain. "Don't hurt her."
Y/n held the crystal aloft, its facets glinting ominously in the dim light. "Then stand down," she commanded, her voice firm. This was all going according to plan.
Inkyu sucked in a deep breath as she slouched her shoulders. Her wings, once held proudly, drooped at her sides, her claws retracting with a soft snick. With a defeated sigh, she slumped to the ground, her inhuman form receding, revealing the bruised and battered form of a young woman.
The sight was almost pitiful. Gone was the monstrous entity, replaced by a vulnerable girl, her eyes welling up with tears. Y/n smirked.
Suddenly, a groan erupted from Sakyu. Her eyes fluttered open, revealing a single, glowing red iris. "Sister?" she rasped, her voice weak but laced with a hint of recognition.
Inkyu's head snapped up, a surge of renewed energy coursing through her. "Big sister!" she cried, scrambling towards her sister, ignoring the throbbing pain in her wounds. "They... they hurt you!"
Sakyu, however, seemed oblivious to the danger. Her gaze fixed on Inkyu, a flicker of warmth replacing the previous malice. "I'm okay..." she rasped, reaching out a trembling hand.
The sight of their bond tugged at something within Y/n. Lowering the crystal slightly, she addressed Inkyu in a cocky, brash tone. "Cut with the soppyness."
Inkyu's gaze darted between Y/n and Sakyu, a storm of emotions flickering across her face. Finally, with a defeated sigh, she slumped back against the wall. "What do you want?" she spat, her voice devoid of its earlier ferocity.
Y/n exchanged another look with the Occult Club.
"We may be human, but we can still pack a punch, especially with a little help from our... friends." she chuckled darkly as she glanced at the occult club members, some of them already back to their normal forms as the others played around with their 'powers' for a little longer. The Occult Club members slumped against furniture or clutching minor injuries and offered weak smiles in return.
Y/n straightened up, her bravado returning. "If you know what's best for you and your precious sister, you'll stay far away from the human world. Let auntie and uncle know that I said 'hi', okay?"
Inkyu's shoulders tensed at the jab. Humiliation burned in her eyes, a flicker of the monstrous rage threatening to return. But then she glanced at Sakyu, her sister's single red eye wide and innocent. The rage died down, replaced by a deep, weary sigh.
"Fine," she spat, her voice raw with defeat. "We'll leave. But don't think this is over, human."
Y/n scoffed. "Don't worry, sweetie, we won't forget you. Consider this a warning. Next time you decide to invade our world, we won't be so merciful." She lowered the crystal slightly, a hint of something akin to amusement dancing in her eyes. "Now, scram."
Inkyu, fuming but powerless, helped her sister to her feet. Sakyu, still weak and confused, leaned heavily against Inkyu, her red eye never leaving Y/n's face. "We're going home." Sakyu nodded and flicked her wrist in a continuous circular motion.
"You played your cards well, cousin." she looked at Y/n. "But don't think this is over and if you know what's best for all of you..." she paused, looking at each of them individually. "You'd keep these events in the dark." The black portal finally opened above them and Sakyu and Inkyu were sucked into it, leaving the teens in the basement.
"Wicked!" Supana screamed, pumping a fist in the air. A weak cheer rose from the rest of the Occult Club, their relief palpable. They looked battered but exhilarated, the adrenaline of the fight slowly fading. Looking at their exhausted faces, Y/n couldn't help but feel a surge of pride. They might be a ragtag group of teenagers, but tonight, they'd faced down a monster and lived to tell the tale.
Y/n froze when she heard an unfamiliar pair of footsteps coming down the stairs. She turned around, knife in hand as she pointed it to the intruder. Ayano put her hands up in mock self-defence, causing the heavy trunk she had been dragging to fall to the ground with a thud.
"Do that again and I won't hesitate to slit your throat." Y/n grumbled while Ayano glared at her. Y/n threw the knife down, watching as it sunk into the pile of black goop that was slowly disappearing. "Ugh, whatever. Less work for me." She glanced around at the occult club members who were staring at the now tidy basement with awe and fear.
"It's probably normal. Let me patch you up and then you can be on your way." Y/n looked at the clock on the basement wall.
'10:00'
"And sister dear, don't disturb us." Y/n's eyes gleamed a bright red as her smile dropped and she stared at Ayano. "Whatever, you disgraceful twat." Ayano rolled her eyes playfully as she glanced towards the trunk that was sitting at the bottom of the stairs. "You should really be on your way," she nodded towards the Occult club, who tensed up at the older Aishi. "It's late."
"Don't bother with the patching up, Y/n-chan. We'll be fine. And uh..." Chojo looked around at the members as they nodded in some sort of silent agreement. "If you ever need help with any more dirty work, you know where to find us."
