Gracie
"Gemma. We gotta talk."
I look up to the beautiful but fierce woman sitting behind an ancient computer screen in the Teller-Morrow Automotive Repair shop's office. She looks frazzled - papers scattered about, one pen in her hand another behind her ear but when she sees me standing behind Clay she smiles and gives us her full attention.
"Hey Gracie baby."
Gemma Teller was my mom way before she ever married my dad. She bought me my first bra and taught me how to shave my legs. She picked me up from school when I was sick - took me to doctor's appointments, helped me get on birth control after walking in on me and Opie making out in the shops supply closet - much to my father's dismay.
"Hey mama."
I watch as Gemma stands and closes the space between us, wrapping her arms around me tightly as I bury my face in her chest - her signature vanilla perfume overwhelming at first but then I realize she smells like home. It's been two years since I left Charming and all I can say is nothings changed. Nothing ever changes in this town.
The woman that birthed me got clean around my sixteenth birthday, demanding full custody and ripping me from the only home I'd ever known. My dad - Clay Morrow - always to busy with his own bullshit, let her take me and I said goodbye to Samcro with tears in my eyes.
Kitty Morrow's sobriety lasted about three months before things spiraled out of control again and now here I am being carted back into my father's care.
"Kitty overdosed last night. Some junky prick dumped her on the front lawn of their apartment complex." Clay's voice was low and full of heartache - not for the woman he'd once loved - for the daughter she'd left behind. "Oh, honey. I'm so sorry." Gemma pulls me back into her embrace as she meets Clay's eyes. "Your rooms just the way you left it. I'll call the school and get you set up to transfer back first thing in the morning." I don't have the heart to tell her I dropped out of my senior year last month and got my GED but we'll hash that out in the morning.
"Have you ate today?" Gemma continues, looking to Clay for the answer. She'll cut his head off if he hasn't fed me. I can't remember the last time I had any real food - there were no happy family dinners in Nevada. It was mostly ramen and peanut butter sandwiches at mom's but I nod assuring her Clay went through McDonald's and got us burgers after he picked me up from the bus station. "Alright, honey. Let me just get this finished up in here and we'll go to the house okay?"
I nod, forcing a smile as Gemma hugs me again. "Thank you." I whisper as Clay closes the space between us and places his hand on my shoulder. "Glad to have you back, kid - even under these circumstances." He mutters, kissing the top of my head as he thanks Gemma and disappears out of the office as quickly as he entered.
Despite his many flaws Clay's a good dad. He tries his best but he's never really known what to do with a daughter.
Thankfully I have Gemma.
"Jax is in the garage. He'll be glad to see you." Gemma assures, brushing her fingers through my blonde hair before ushering me towards the garage to finish up what she's working on. Once I'm outside I take a deep needed breath - steadying my nerves as I cross the parking lot quickly. Wherever Jax Teller is Opie Winston isn't far behind.
