There was a theory Taehyun had read about destiny. According to the book, a persons life is a pile of neatly organized strings—and it'll only take one flick of a finger from the fates to have them all tangled in a tight, messy knot.

It was a scary thing to think of, and Taehyun pushes it in the farthest edge of his mind as he watched Mohwa's luggage being loaded at the back of the Jung family's carriage.

He and Kai were at the Jung family villa where Mohwa had stayed with her grandparents for the past six years. They were there with the sole purpose of bidding their good wishes and goodluck to their friend who had been accepted into the mage tower.

Approximately three weeks after the coming of age ball when Mohwa received her scroll of acceptance. It happened while Taehyun and Kai were on the training grounds practicing their swords. They were learning how to let their mana flow into the steel when a white feathered owl glided gracefully between them.

Mohwa, who was reading at that time, noticed the startled yelps from the boys and looked up. Calmly, the young Jung held out her arm as the owl willingly perched on it. Taehyun winced on her behalf when he saw how the bird's claws had wrapped around his friend's arm.

The owl didn't stay long, only dropping the scroll that was between its mouth before flying away.

"How far is the mage tower from the city?" Kai asked, watching somberly as the maids and butlers of the Jung family continued loading the carriage with Mohwa's belongings.

"It's on the main capital of Chrystelle," Taehyun averted his gaze from the luggage to his friend. "It's not far Hyuks, we'll still see her."

"But we can't though," Kai murmurs, a pout slowly forming on his lips. "Gramps said the mage tower never lets their apprentice-in-training outside. No visitors are allowed either."

Taehyun gave him a concerned look, "Won't they go mad in there?"

"Most of them do actually," the two boys look over their shoulder and found Mohwa. "That's why only half of a thousand pass each year."

Kai lets out a laugh, "Hope you aren't the first one diving into madness."

"I'm sure I can handle it, you drive me insane everyday so how hard can that be?" Mohwa retorts with a smirk, earning a smack from the young Huening.

Taehyun gave her a weak smile, "Finished saying goodbye to your folks?"

The young lady averted his gaze to him and nodded, "Of course, grandmother hasn't stopped crying. Grandfather's still inside calming her down."

As the three of them stood in silence, the air surrounding them became a bit — gloomy.

They were really growing up now, huh.

Taehyun couldn't believe they were teenagers still. For some reasom he still had the impression that he and Kai were still kids, trying to get a hesitant Mohwa to play with them.

But now Mohwa was going away.

"Oh don't give me that look the mage tower isn't that far," she laughed, trying to lighten up the mood.

"We know," Kai mutters, flashing her a sad smile. "It's just that. . . things wouldn't be the same without you."

Taehyun couldn't agree more than that.
