5pmthe atmosphere at camp flog gnaw was electric. fans from all over had gathered for a day filled with music, art, and good vibes. the weather was perfect, the sun was shining, and everyone had a smile on their face. performers had been performing since 10am, my set was at 5:30, and i was nervous.
i was backstage, making last minute preparations before my set. snoh, my manager, had been giving me advice and words of encouragement. dominic was on the stage. "is there anyway i could just peek out and see him for a second?" i asked the security guard.
the security guard gave me a small smile. "sure, but just a quick peek, okay? you don't want to be late for your set." he said. i nodded and made my way backstage, peering through the curtains to catch a glimpse of my boyfriend.
i smiled at him before closing the curtains and walking back to where i was before. "there's so many people out there." i said to snoh.
she nodded in understanding, her expression a mix of excitement and reassurance. "it can be overwhelming, but remember that you have the talent and the passion to make this set unforgettable. just focus on your music, let the rest take care of itself." she said, her voice filled with encouragement.
i took a deep sigh in hopes to calm myself. "is my special guest here? i haven't seen him."
snoh nodded. "he's here, don't worry. he's in the VIP section, probably still getting ready." she said, a small smile playing at the corners of her lips.
i exhaled deeply, feeling a rush of nerves mixed with anticipation. "okay," i said nodding. "i'm ready. i can do this."
"dominic's set just wrapped up, elaine is up," i heard someone say through the walkie talkie.
i took a deep breath, feeling a mix of nerves and excitement coursing through me. this was it. i was about to walk out onto the stage in front of thousands of people to perform my album for the first time.
snoh gave me an encouraging smile, her eyes sparking with pride. "you got this." she whispered, her voice filled with confidence.
i stepped out onto the stage, my heart pounding in my chest. the crowd erupted in cheers and applause, their energy and excitement palpable. i took a moment to soak it all in, feeling a sense of gratitude and astonishment at the turnout. as i adjusted the microphone, i caught sight of dominic in the VIP section. our eyes met and he gave me a small smile, a silent gesture that said he was proud of me. i felt a rush of warmth and affection for him, knowing that he was there to support me.
as i had just finished my last song of the album i cleared my throat. "so if you listen to my music, you know that i just sang my last song from the album, but i can't just leave you guys like that...so i have one more song for you guys, and i'm gonna need a little bit of help singing it. can we bring out my friend frank ocean?"
the crowd erupted in cheers and applause as i made my announcement. a murmur of anticipation filled the air as we waited for frank ocean to come onstage.
after a few moments, frank ocean emerged from backstage, a sly smile on his face. the crowd's cheers grew louder and more excited. i looked at drank as he picked up a microphone with a warm smile on my face. frank returned my smile, his expression calm and collected.
i spoke into the mic. "so, let's start off with 'moon river,' that song is so special to me and someone else." i said as i locked eyes with dominic fike, who had his phone up recording the scene infront of him. "does that work for you, frank?"
