Tine found himself on the first of September, clearly a new year for him. He had chosen the university he would attend and had been accepted, albeit with a certain indifference. He was naturally lazy and practically disinterested in anything related to school. As he walked on campus, Tine couldn't help but feel a sense of disorientation amidst all the liveliness and excitement around him. He watched with detachment as other students hurried from place to place, passionately discussing classes, exams, and projects. He, on the other hand, felt as though he was dragged into this situation against his will. Every building, every lawn, every new face seemed to confirm that he had nothing in common with the academic world around him. Yet, despite his reluctance, he knew he had to face this new phase of his life, even though he wasn't sure what to expect.
As Tine walked towards the university, he casually ran into three familiar faces: Ohm, Phuak, and Fong, his closest friends. He had known Ohm since they were children; they had grown up together in the neighborhood and shared a long history of adventures and laughter. Phuak was the type of friend who always brought a smile to his face, with his cheerful personality and eternal zest for fun. Fong, on the other hand, was quieter but always there when advice or support was needed.
When the three saw him, they greeted him warmly and approached him enthusiastically. "Hey, Tine, you finally made it!" exclaimed Ohm, giving him a pat on the shoulder. "We were just at a bar near the school grabbing coffee, you missed all the fun!"
Phuak nodded. "Actually, Ohm meant you just spared yourself an endless stomach ache... as usual."
Tine chuckled. "Are you still going to those places with awful food for your blog?"
"Exactly," replied Fong with a smile. "We enjoy reviewing the worst places in town. But at least the waitresses are cute."
"At least the local girls were cute," said Ohm at the same time as Fong; the two glanced mischievously at each other.
"You're always the same..." Tine replied, laughing.
They all turned towards him. "What happened to our Tine? You must be surely someone else... or maybe a clone!" added Fong with an amused smile.
"Haha! You're quite humorous early in the morning," replied Tine.
"Come on, I was kidding, Tine! Anyway, we decided to keep you company and came here... But it looks like you're mourning your face," said Ohm.
Fong then added: "I hope you're enjoying your last freedom before the start of classes."
Tine sighed and looked at his friends. "You guys are crazy. Always chasing girls. But I suppose without you, my life would be much more boring."
"Oh, you know it well," replied Phuak with an infectious laugh. "Come on, you'll see university won't be that bad, especially with us around."
Tine and his friends walked along the main campus avenue, chatting and laughing. The sun was high in the sky, and the air was still warm, a sign that summer had not completely given way to autumn.
"So, Tine," Ohm began, "have you decided which courses to take this year?"
Tine shrugged. "Not really. I just picked the mandatory ones. As for the rest, I'll figure it out as I go."
Phuak nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I did the same. But you know, there's an optional cooking course that looks interesting. I thought of signing up, maybe it could be useful for our blog."
"Oh, great idea!" exclaimed Fong. "We can review the worst recipes ever. Imagine the title: 'The worst dish ever - made by us!'"
Tine laughed. "Yeah, sure, with you two as chefs, we won't take long to find the worst dish."
