"Oh my god. Turn the bloody radio down or I'll rip the entire system out!" I whined over Naomi's poor choice in music.
She ignored me and kept her focus on driving.
I wanted to scream at her.
"I swear to god I'll-"
"Okay! Okay!" She laughed, reaching over to change the channel.
Another stupid song played.
"Ugh! I hate this too!" I cried.
"Deal with it princess!" She commanded, turning back to the road.
I was lying in the back seat as Naomi's "baby" sat in the passenger seat.
Her baby, you ask?
A box of coupons her father had collected for her.
Unbelievable, I know, but she took them everywhere.
I looked out the window.
Clear sky's and a bright full moon.
Yuck.
Why couldn't it just rain?
I laid back down, my head resting on my favourite pillow, decorated with Harry Potter symbols and such.
You know, nerd stuff.
I felt the car turn into the gas station.
"'Kay loser. I'll be back in a second." Naomi said, sliding out of the car to fill up the tank.
"Buy me ice cream!" I yelled at her from inside the car.
"Yeah, whatever." I heard her muffled voice chuckle.
A few moments later the click of Naomi putting the petrol tube thingy back in its original place indicated she was done filling the tank.
She opened the car door and reached in for a coupon, leaning for the box.
She grabbed one and pulled herself out of the car, straightening herself.
"I'll be back in a tick!" Naomi shouted, I could hear her heels click-clacking along the pavement and up to the shop.
"Don't forget the ice cream!" I cried out to her.
No response.
I sighed and helped myself up into a sitting position.
Sitting alone, humming, I thought about my favourite ice cream.
Vanilla. Simple yet satisfiable.
Rocky road. Variety.
Ohhhh and peppermint. Don't even get me started.
Midway through my daydreaming, I realised something.
"I gotta pee." I whispered to myself, unbuckling my seatbelt and pushing open my door.
I scooted out of the car and made my way to the gas stations toilets, my combat boots thudding against the concrete.
I came to the bathroom door and hesitantly, pushed it open.
Toilet paper covered the floor and the tap was running.
It stunk of death and you could almost feel the sweat in the air trying to grope you.
"How luxurious." I muttered sarcastically.
I stepped into the room and closed the door.
Once I'd finished my "business" I stood in front of the sink, looking at myself in the mirror.
"Ugh, my skin is so oily." I complained to myself, poking and prodding.
Knock knock.
"Just a moment!" I told the visitor.
Knock knock.
"Just. A. Moment!" I yelled. "Jeesh..."
I went back to pulling at my face.
Knock knock.
"Hey-"
Knock knock.
I turned to face the door.
It was beginning to sound like pounding.
My heart rate quickened.
"H-hey! St-stop!" I screeched.
The door was shaking, I thought the entire thing was going to become loose and crash down.
"Okay! Okay!" I called.
I stepped over to the door.
My fingers crawled over the handle, hesitant to greet the visitor.
I grasped the metal more tightly and turned the knob.
With a swift pull I yanked the door open and stood in the door frame.
"What do you wa-" my words ended at an abrupt stop.
Nothing.
There was no one there.
I scoffed, I couldn't believe it.
I stepped out into the open.
"Oh ha ha. Very fu-"
All I saw was a flask of dark, and then a pain in my side as I came crashing down onto the pavement.
I screamed.
I was lying on my back, the attacker clawing at me.
I cried out in pain, my arms protecting my body as he grasped at my neck and shoulders.
He rolled me onto my stomach, sharp nails scratching down my spine.
"Stop! Please! Stop!" I called, crying out. "Someone please help me! Please!"
The attacker moved down to my legs, biting at my ankles.
But I couldn't feel his hands anymore.
They were more like...
Paws.
Biting?
Scratching?
Clawing?
And paws?
This was no human.
But I had felt human hands around my neck just earlier.
Then a deep sound escaped it.
A growl.
It was dog.
It had to be.
It turned me over again, so that I was lying on my back.
I felt its claws dig into my left thigh.
It then rake down all the way to my knees.
It jumped up to my chest and ripped at my clothes.
This was no dog.
It was too large, too fierce.
Wolf.
The word hit me, just appeared in my brain and I knew i was right.
As if the animal could sense I knew its secret, it went for a swift bite right into my side, just above my left hip.
I screamed again, crying harder and harder.
Suddenly the weight of the animal was lifted off my chest and the wolf was gone. He just ran off, as if satisfied with his mauling.
I gasped in pain, my hands shaking and trying to reach my side.
My vision was starting to become clouded as I l lost blood, my chest was rising in uneven breaths as I fought for air and my heart was pounding a million times a second.
"N-nao-mi..." I tried to call out.
I lay there, the world going dark.
I could taste something metal in my mouth.
Blood.
I coughed, red fluid splattering onto my lips.
"Koda?" It was a muffled sound, barely audible, but it was definitely my name.
"Oh my god! Koda!" A figure came into view.
"Naomi..." I whispered, as she crouched down.
"Help! Someone one! Called 911!" She screamed, grabbing my head and pulling me into her lap as she sat with me.
Was this it? Was this how I die?
The world was spinning, I felt dizzy and sick and I wanted to cry even harder than I already was.
I was scared.
"Koda, it's-it's gonna be okay!" Naomi tried to reassure me, but I knew she was freaking out herself.
I could just see sparkling tears litter her face as my head rested in her lap.
My wet, bloody hand tried to reach up and touch her face.
"No Koda." She sobbed, gently taking my wrist and resting my fingers on her cheek, leaving a crimson mark of blood.
I heard commotion.
People yelling at others, sirens in the distance.
"We-" I tried to whisper to her.
"Shhh. Koda, they're almost here... just rest..." She said, trying to pull of a reassuring smile.
My vision was almost completely black.
But before I slipped away I mustered all my strength to choke out a single word.
"Werewolf."
