ρєя¢у נα¢кѕση αη∂ кαιℓαηι ƒιη¢н should have been asleep. It was nearing three in the morning at Yancy Academy, yet both kids were wide awake.

Their hushed giggles could be heard on the other side of the room, causing a very grumpy Grover to roll over and shove his pillow on top of his face.

"Okay, okay," Kailani said, putting a hand up in the air. She had been laughing for the past ten minutes over the stupidest thing and couldn't breathe anymore.

It's not like Percy was helping. Every time Kailani thought she was finally going to calm down, he would add onto the joke and make her laugh again.

"Percy, stop!" Kailani exclaimed, hitting the mattress and squeezing her eyes shut. The more she looked at him, the more tears fell from her eyes.

Percy chuckled under his breath, but eventually stopped. He wanted to keep making her laugh, partially for the sound of it and the way she smiled so brightly.

"It's not my fault these things crack you up so much!" he argued, pointing to the drawing on a piece of paper.

"Look at it!" Kailani said, her eyes wide as she held the paper up in front of his face.

Okay, it was funny, Percy had to admit. It was supposed to be a drawing of the three of them—Percy, Kailani and Grover—at the science fair, but instead, it looked like a dog had tried to draw it with its tail.

Percy, who had a lab coat on, looked like Mr. Potato head when he didn't have all of his pieces in the right place.

Kailani, who wore goggles and gloves, looked like one of those inflatable decapitated head costumes you would see on Halloween. Her head was hanging off of her body by way too many inches.

Grover, who just smiled and stood behind the table, looked like the blobfish thing. It was quite terrible, seeing as the actual photograph of them was endearing, but it was funny enough to make Kailani laugh for hours on end.

They totally won the science fair, by the way. Their experiment won first place and they would have gone to other competitions had Yancy not been strict. The school board said the kids weren't allowed to miss any class time.

"Who knew a bad drawing could get Kailani Finch to laugh this much?" Percy asked, taking the piece of paper out of her hands and putting it on his nightstand.

Kailani raised a hand. "Uh, me! I told you not to show me that again! Do you remember last time I even caught a glimpse of that masterpiece?"

Percy did remember. It was right after the kid who drew it handed it to her. Kailani was laughing so much, people started to stare and the kid began to cry.

She felt terrible, but the tears flowed down her cheeks and her stomach hurt so much. Percy had to drag her away and hide from how embarrassing it was.

Grover turned in his sleep, his blankets almost falling off of his bed. He looked like one of those outlines for people who were murdered and snored like the foghorn from Spongebob.

Kailani gasped, putting a hand over Percy's mouth. "Be quiet! You're gonna wake Grover up!"

Percy was quick to lick her hand—which was the only choice he had, making her yelp and hit his shoulder. He laughed even harder, falling back on the bed and holding his stomach.
