circa 4000 BCE:

in the land of Nod, east of Eden, where the sun had dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows over the desolate landscape. Cain knelt beside his brother Abel, his hands stained with the blood of the innocent. The stillness of death hung heavy in the air, broken only by Cain's ragged breaths.

"Forgive me, brother... I never wanted this. It was the anger, the jealousy... I couldn't control it," Cain whispered, his voice trembling with sorrow as he reached out, his fingers brushing Abel's lifeless face. Tears mingled with the blood on his hands, creating streaks of crimson on his cheek.

"We were meant to walk this land together, to build and grow... Now I am alone," he lamented, his words a haunting echo in the silence of the night.

A chilling breeze swept through the field, and suddenly, the air seemed to thicken with an unseen presence. Cain's heart pounded as he felt a cold, divine gaze upon him. The ground beneath him seemed to tremble.

"Cain, what have you done? The blood of your brother cries out to me from the ground," a voice came from the sky, its tone both solemn and accusing.

Cain looked up, eyes wide with fear and regret. "I... I am lost, my Lord. What is to become of me?"

"For this sin, you are cursed from the earth. No longer shall it yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a wanderer shall you be," God proclaimed, his voice resounding with divine judgment.

"My punishment is more than I can bear! Anyone who finds me will kill me!" Cain cried out, his desperation palpable.

"Not so. I shall place a mark upon you, so that none who find you shall harm you. But know this, Cain: you shall wander the earth, never to find peace, cursed with immortality to forever bear the weight of your crime," God decreed.

As the words settled, Cain felt a searing pain on his forehead. He cried out, clutching his head, as a mark-dark and foreboding-appeared upon his skin. The pain subsided, leaving him gasping on the ground.

"Eternal life... Eternal sorrow... What have I become?" he whispered, broken and lost amidst the desolate expanse of the land of Nod.

As Cain sat beneath the sprawling branches of the ancient tree, his tears mingled with the earth, each droplet a testament to the weight of his eternal burden. In the hushed stillness of the night, a voice, soft yet commanding, cut through the silence like a beacon of solace.

"What burdens thee, gentle sir?" The words floated to him on a gentle breeze, carrying with them a sense of both empathy and curiosity.

Startled, Cain lifted his gaze to behold a figure standing before him, bathed in the silver glow of moonlight. She was a vision of ethereal beauty, her dark hair cascading like a waterfall of midnight silk, her eyes pools of wisdom and compassion. Clad in a gown that seemed to shimmer with the very essence of starlight, she exuded an otherworldly grace that defied description.

Cain's eyes widened in wonder as he beheld her, struck by her radiant presence. "Who are you?" he ventured, his voice barely above a whisper, filled with a mixture of awe and apprehension.

With a gentle smile, the woman stepped forward, her movements fluid and graceful. "Behold, I am thy deliverer," she declared, her voice a melody that resonated deep within his soul.

Cain's heart stirred with a glimmer of hope, mingled with a healthy dose of skepticism. "From what peril doth thou deliver me?" he inquired, his voice laced with a thread of desperation.
