Chapter 1: The Call That Changes Everything
It was a regular afternoon in the cozy household nestled amidst the lush landscapes of New Zealand. The warmth of the sun seeped into the home of Parth Birla and Abhinav Sharma, illuminating the peace they had cultivated over the years. Roohi, Shivansh, Mahir, Ansh, and Ragini had just returned from school, filling the house with laughter and chatter. They were more than just cousins and siblings – they were a family, bound by unbreakable ties of love and loyalty.
Roohi was now a bright, confident young woman, a far cry from the little girl who had once been blamed for her mother Aarohi’s tragic death. She had found solace in the care of her adoptive parents, Abhinav and Kiara, who had taken her in and shielded her from the harshness of the world. Mahir, Ansh, Shivansh, and Ragini, along with Roohi, shared an unshakable bond, united by the love they had for their parents and each other.
But the tranquility of this new life was suddenly shattered when Parth received an unexpected call from India. It was the Goenkas and the Birlas – a voice from the past they had all left behind, a world filled with pain, accusations, and loss.
“Parth Bhaiya, it’s urgent. Mimi... she’s not doing well. She wants to see Roohi and Shivansh... before it’s too late,” the voice on the other end said, the weight of the request pressing on Parth’s chest.
Parth remained silent, gripping the phone tightly as memories flooded his mind. Memories of the day he had left everything behind, vowing never to return to a family that had treated Roohi like a curse. He had promised Neil that he would protect her, and he had kept that promise for ten long years. Now, they were asking for Roohi to return to the very place that had broken her.
Abhinav, who was sitting nearby, noticed the change in Parth’s expression. He walked over and placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "What happened, Parth?"
Parth swallowed hard before responding, “It’s Mimi... She’s on her deathbed. They want Roohi and Shivansh to come back to India... to see her one last time.”
Abhinav’s heart sank. India. The place where so much had gone wrong, where they had been wronged. Roohi, who had grown so strong, had barely spoken of the Birlas or the Goenkas in years. How would she react to this? And what about Shivansh? Would going back to that place reopen old wounds that had barely healed?
“They can’t expect Roohi to just forget everything,” Parth continued, his voice laced with anger. “After everything they said about her… after the way they treated her. How dare they ask this of us now?”
Abhinav remained calm, though his mind raced. “Parth, we knew this day might come,” he said quietly. “We have to think about what’s best for Roohi and Shivansh. If they don’t go, they might regret it one day. But if they do, we need to be there to protect them.”
Parth let out a deep sigh, running his hand through his hair. “You’re right. But I won’t let them get hurt again. Not after all we’ve built here.”
At that moment, the children walked into the room, their carefree banter filling the air. Roohi, now a poised and confident 16-year-old, looked at her father and Abhinav with concern. She had grown up seeing them as her pillars of strength, and any distress in their eyes unsettled her.
“Papa, Dada… is something wrong?” Roohi asked, sensing the tension in the room.
Abhinav exchanged a glance with Parth before speaking. “Roohi, Shivansh… we got a call from India. Mimi isn’t well. She… she wants to see both of you before... before it’s too late.”
Shivansh frowned, crossing his arms. “India? After all these years? Why now?”
Roohi’s face hardened. “They want to see us? The same people who blamed me for everything? The same people who said I was bad luck?” Her voice was steady, but there was an edge of bitterness.
Parth stepped forward, his voice gentle yet firm. “Roohi, I know it’s hard to forget what happened, but this is about Mimi. She was always kind to you and Shivansh. It’s her last wish to see you.”
Roohi’s expression softened at the mention of Mimi. Despite everything, Mimi had never treated her with the same cruelty as the others. Shivansh, sensing Roohi’s internal conflict, spoke up, “If Roohi goes, I’ll go too. But only if she wants to.”
The room was silent for a moment as everyone awaited Roohi’s decision. Finally, she sighed. “Fine. We’ll go… but only for Mimi. I’m not going back there to forgive anyone else.”
Parth nodded, though his heart ached at the thought of returning to India. “We’ll all go,” he said. “Abhinav, Kiara, the kids… we’re a family, and we’ll face whatever comes together.”
Abhinav’s mind was still reeling from the weight of what lay ahead. He knew that his return to India would bring shockwaves. After all, everyone believed he was dead. How would Akshara and Abhimanyu react to seeing him alive? What would this mean for Roohi, who had rebuilt her life far away from the shadows of her past?
As they began to make preparations for their journey, there was an unspoken understanding between them all: they were walking into a storm. But this time, they were not alone. They had each other, and that would be enough to weather whatever came next.
Little did they know, this trip to India would not just be a reunion—it would be the beginning of a battle for the truth, for justice, and for the family they had chosen to protect.
And in the middle of it all stood Roohi, stronger than ever, ready to face the ghosts of her past.
