The diner is as rowdy as ever on a Friday night. I'm beginning to question why in the world I thought this was the best place to share my findings with the group.
"I have two orders of chocolate chip, my personal favorite if I do say so myself, plain with an extra order of whipped cream, and blueberry pancakes for my best patrons." Remus said as he delivered the plates to each of us.
Oh yeah, this is why we decided on the Moonlight diner for this discussion. Where else would we go for overly sweet pancakes at 9pm?
"Remus, you're too good to us." Theo mumbles, already shoving too big of a bite into his mouth.
"Hey Theo, you've got some whipped cream on your nose there bud" I try to hide my smirk but fail as he just smears it across his nose in reply. I throw a napkin across the table at him.
"Go give the cook a kiss for us all" Pansy shouts to Remus as he walks away. We see Sirius pop out of the kitchen door with a wink and a smile before getting back to work.
The table quiets as we all tuck in. It's been a tradition for as long as we can remember, coming here. No matter the mood of the day, celebration or grieving, morning or night, Moonlight's pancakes always make it better.
Pansy and I share one side of the booth, pouring, probably too much, syrup onto our chocolate chip pancakes, while Theo and Luna sit across from us. The conversation lulls as we eat but I take a break to finally share what I found earlier that day at the library.
"So, I found another report of a local spotting the Honey Island Swamp Monster" I say, barely containing my excitement.
A chorus of groans erupts from the table as everyone realizes why I really wanted to get together tonight.
"Hermione, can we have one meal where you don't describe gruesome mythical monsters to us? I just want to enjoy my whipped cream here." Theo looks at me like I've just stomped on his most prized possession.
Before I can answer him with a clever response on why he will be interested in this new fact that I learned, a commotion at the door interrupts us.
"Well well, looks like we might get dinner and a show tonight everyone." Luna mumbles while turning back around to face us.
Pansy and I have a clear view of the group that just walked in. I look over to Pansy as she looks at me, eyebrows raised.
"How long do you think it will take before Boy Wonder over there causes a scene?" Pansy asks me.
"Knowing Seamus, I give him two minutes." I reply under my breath.
Seamus was known for his loud boisterous personality and his temper. Both of which could quickly ruin any event that he showed up at.
"How's it going Dean?" Seamus could be heard from across the diner as he plopped down into a booth containing some friends. "Oi' Remus! How about some pancakes when you get a minute, yeah?"
It was clear that Remus wanted nothing more than to ignore Seamus, but he begrudgingly walked back to the kitchen to give the order to Sirius.
"His dad is elected onto city council for less than a month and he walks around like he's Christ himself now. Unbelievable." Theo mutters.
"It's totally believable actually." Luna says softly, "Don't you remember how he was in school? His aura was always all over the place. He could have benefitted from a yoga class or two, I even offered once but he turned me down."
"You offered to give Seamus Finningan a yoga class while we were in school?" Theo looks at her like she's grown a second head.
"Yeah, I thought it could help him. Why are you looking at me like that?" Luna says while picking her blueberries out of her pancakes, avoiding eye contact.
