Helping Hand

Camryn's Pov

"Where are we going?" As the woman who said her name was Ariana helped me up. "To our house so we can decided how to help you." Ariana said. I looked into her eyes. She is pretty. I hesitated but said, "oh, okay." The man held Kyla and I held onto Ariana's hand. The walk was quiet. We arrived at a huge house. "This is where we live." Ariana said. After we were in the house, Ariana let go of my hand and Sean laid Kyla on the couch. She stopped crying. "Um, can I use the restroom?" I asked. "Sure, come with me. I'll show you where it is." Sean said leading me down the hallway. He showed me the bathroom and left. I shut the door behind me. I looked into the mirror at my dirty face. I haven't smiled since mama died.

"What's wrong Cam?" Mama asked me. I was on the couch crying. "Daddy always yells at me." I said. "He just wants you to be a strong person." "I.. I can't if he always yells at me." I looked at my mamas dark skin. She was black. Daddy is white. "Look," she would say as she would point out a verse in the bible. "No matter what. God is there for you."

I looked up to the ceiling. "God, if you can hear me, please tell these people to let us stay. I... I don't wanna go back to the streets. Kyla needs help.... I need help." I started cry when I heard a knock on the door. "Camryn, are you okay in there? I fixed up some dinner for you and Kyla." Ariana yelled. I opened the door and fell into her arms. "Please. Please don't make us go back. Please let us stay." I said through tears. "We'll talk more later. Right now, we need to get that belly full." I nodded. We walked into the dining room and on the table was chicken, salad, banana pudding, fruit salad, and sodas. Kyla was already eating. Sean made me a plate so I sat down. After Ariana and Sean sat down, they started asking questions. "So, where's your parents." Sean asked. "Dead" Kyla spoke for the first time since mama died. "Dead? How?" Asked Ariana. "Mama got into a car accident." I said. "What about your father?" I played with my food. Then, decided to tell them. "Ever since mama died, he only hit us. And he made us sleep outside and a few weeks ago he kicked us out. W... We don't have anybody else. You have to help us." Ariana quickly got up from the table to comfort me. "No baby, we won't make you leave. This is your home now." She said.
