"Miss. Russo!" I looked up and saw Luis, the owner of the Mexican Mafia, walk up to me. He was six something, with thick brown hair and an oily, pedo looking smile. "Wonderful to see you."
"Same with you," I smiled as he kissed my hand. "This looks very...extravagant. You outdo yourself every year.
He grinned, "Yes, yes. I do try to. Are you participating in the auction?"
"Excuse me?" My smile flattered. Auction?
"Of course, I did not tell you." His Spanish accent was thick but his English was perfect. "You see, this year I decided to raise awareness for children's cancer." I nodded along with him. "To raise money for the hospitals, you know?"
"It's a wonderful cause. Truly." I smiled even as my insides twisted when he grinned again. "And I'd love to help with the auction. Where do I start?"
"Right over there," He pointed to where a crowd of girls stood in a circle. "Mrs. Ryan will help you."
"What's for the auction?" I asked, because, hey, I'd love to help.
Spending money isn't a problem for my family, we have enough to burn. Most of the Mafia's here also had money to burn. But also to the public it looks suspicious if we'd have so much money, so most of us had outside business. For us, the Russo's, we were the proud owners of R. Group. The largest luxury group in the U.S.
"Oh, you'll find out later." His oily smile had me shivering.
I nodded, "Okay, thank you." I turned away from him before making a disgusted face and walking over to Mrs. Ryan.
"Oh! Hello!" One brunette saw me, her face lit up. "I'm Evelyn Ryan...you must be Isabella Russo! Luis told me so much about you."
"Oh, all good things, I hope?" I gave a shaky laugh.
At that she laughed, linked her arm in mine and led me towards the group of girls. "So, once we announce the auction, just come up wave and introduce yourself, okay?"
I nodded, "What are we auctioning?"
"Oh, sweetie...you don't know?" She gave me a pitying look and a sad smile. "Yourselves."
