Darkness, the essence of the unknown, is a power that gifts us insight into the being of others. Conceived without the presence of light, yet is essential to the balance of nature. Found within one's self or shadows of the world. Often seen as the root of all evil, this power is wielded by those who seek comfort and serenity within the unfamiliar. It is they that wield this vast ancient primordial force for either ill or good. For Darkness itself was neither Benevolent nor full of Malice. It simply existed to observe the world, to gather the vast knowledge and secrets hidden in the expanse of Chaos and offer them to its wielders.

It is often found accompanied by its betrothed the Night, who pulls the stars across the celestial heavens. Who forms the constellations, dives back the light, and gives way to darkness. The two have been entranced with each other since the moment of their "Birth" as the humans called it. You see humans must always find ways to understand and control that which they can't phantom. But they held an incredible power that not many "Divine" beings had, for humans held the power of imagination, and these immensely powerful beings found themselves subjected to this power. An example would be the concept of names, to humans a name is perhaps the most important thing they could possess. For without one, they had no purpose nor function, no true being nor will, without a name, they weren't real. So they began to name themselves and the World and all its inhabitants.

And the "Universe", as the humans named the being of Chaos, obliged inscribing these names into the very cores of all that possessed one. Even Night and Darkness were not spared; as humans named them, their forms were also influenced by humans. For Darkness took the form of man, with skin white as the marble that artists used to sculpt their statues, Eyes dark as the deepest abyss, and hair that resembled the very shadows he commanded. He was clothed in pure darkness that formed a flowing chiton. His name was Erebus, the Primordial embodiment of Darkness.

Night took the form of a woman. Her skin pale as the moon, her eyes shone with the radiance of the stars, her hair flowed with the grace of the cosmos, and it was black as Erebus's darkest shadow. Her stars and the very fabric of the night sky formed her dress, and upon her back were two great wings formed of her domain which she used to envelop the heavens within the night. Humans named her Nyx, the enigmatic embodiment of the night itself. From their union, they produced a plethora of deities that were aspects of the dark.

Such as the twins, Death and Dream, Thanatos, and Hypnos respectively. The Ferrier of Souls across the Styx, Charon. The Goddess of Discord, Eris. The embodiment of dreams themselves, The Onori. The Weavers of Fates, The Moirai. The Goddess of Witchcraft, Hecate. However, not all their children were aspects of the vast darkness cultivated by Nyx and Erebus. The most powerful and eldest of their children happened to be their exact opposites. Aether the God of Light and his consort Hamera the Goddess of Day.

Though both radiant deities respected and revered their parents, humanity began to fear them as they feared the inhabitants of their domains and labeled them as the progenitors of evil. Yet the few humans who used but a slimmer of their power knew better. The Dark was neither a force of good nor one of malevolence, it was simply there existing as was its counterpart the Light. Watching as its power was often pitted against that of its children, and imparting its vast wisdom upon those it found worthy.

Two recipients of this blessing were Sirius Black, the oldest son and current lord of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black, who was gifted the knowledge of the Stars and the strength to call forth their power when needed. and Adonis Procteor the youngest of the Proctor family was gifted the Knowledge of the Dead and was capable of calling upon their power to aid him.

What would happen If the Moirai decided that it was once again time for these powerful Witches to cross paths again? Would they rekindle an old flame that had never truly died out? Perhaps they'd awaken the Ancient powers that lie dormant within the Earthmother? or would they raise a frightened boy to become the very champion that the Lady Hecate seeks? The possible futures were endless, and not even the Moirai themselves knew what The Universe had in store for these practitioners of the Dark Arts.
