Little Dream's POV
The small babybones felt the aura of others around him the moment his magic spat him out in this unfamiliar place. He felt the way their emotions spiked with alarm and hostility, felt the intent that saturated the air, and he curled himself to be as small as he was able, whimpering as his senses blurred into a cacophony of noise.
The Villagers had never been kind when their auras showed any amount of hostility or dissatisfaction. They would throw things, anything from harmless sticks to much-less-harmless bricks. They would hold him down whilst they hurt his twin brother, forcing him to watch as they hurt the only family he had. They would only hurt N̴͔͑i̷̢̓g̶͎̿h̷̝͋t̵̨̅m̷͍̓a̵̢̐r̵̺̐ĕ̶̘?̵̝̔ ̶͙̒Ĩ̴̝n̴̖̄k̷̮̑?̸͉͗ Vantablack more if he cried or struggled, so he learned to be small, to be silent.
In his state of disorientation, he didn't quite recognise that he was not there, that these people were not the monsters who he had spent his entire childhood with. Even if he had, he didn't know any better - every person he had ever met, even the other children, had only added to his torment and pain, and he was convinced this would be no different.
Little Dream's hands covered the sides of his skull, blocking out voices that weren't there. He could remember everything the Villagers had ever said to him. How he was a disappointment of a guardian. How he was a failure of a brother. How he would never be anything more than a source of healing and happiness for those stronger than him. How they wished he would just die so they could have the apples.
His sockets filled with tears that streamed hot down his cheeks, and despite his fear and sorrow, he was unnaturally quiet, afraid of the punishment noise might bring. Those tears were that same copper-gold colour, positivity magic mixed with something, but he certainly had not noticed.
He didn't quite register the way his bones ached. He didn't register the way his outfit was torn, splinters of wood digging into him and causing gold coloured marrow to slightly stain his clothing. He didn't register how he couldn't even feel his wings, the sensation completely numb. The fear was too much to register anything at all.
He wasn't sure at what point he was lifted, just that he suddenly found himself in the warmth of a stranger's arms. They held him gently, cradling him, their positive aura gently wrapping around him as though it were a warm blanket. It was a magic both familiar and yet not, so similar to his ownj that he reactively leaned into it.
"Shhh... It's okay, little apple. I don't know where you came from, but I've got you. You're safe," a voice soothed in a near-whisper.
Despite his fear, he clung to the other, tiny phalanges gripping on their fabric as tightly as he could manage. The rattling of his bones hadn't yet calmed, silent sobs and hiccups escaping him. This strange person felt safe, yet he was just so very frightened.
"It's alright, I'm here, nobody is going to hurt you," the taller soothed yet again, shifting the little one in his arms and gently rubbing their back, careful to avoid the tiny little copper-gold wings. "Ink, do you recognise them? They kind of look like a... tiny... me...?" The positivity guardian let out slowly, expression contorting further into confusion the longer he gazed at the child in his arms.
"Er... no?" Ink responded. Big Dream must not have been convinced, as Little Dream heard the other go on to exclaim, "Hey! Don't glare at me! I swear I didn't make a new DreamTale!"
Little Dream whimpered at the second voice, not wanting to be near more strangers, but Big Dream simply continued to soothe them, keeping him close and resting their chin upon his skull. Little Dream's face was buried in their chest, so he didn't see the people who were talking, but he could feel all the different auras and hear the voices. They seemed calm, which in turn was helping him to feel calm.
"...I, uh, don't mean to interrupt, but you should probably consider figuring out who will look after the little one. If you don't know their au, one of us will probably have to take them infor now," one of the other skeletons let out.
There was no intent in the air anymore, no hostile auras ready to attack at a moments notice, and whilst he didn't really understand what was going on, he felt safe in the arms that held him. Carefully, he peeked at the strangers around him, still clinging to the other tightly and ready to hide away if anybody were to meet his gaze.
"That's a good idea, Lust," he let out in agreement. "Do you really think you should be over here, though? They're a, you know, babybones," he let out, voice sounding slightly suspicious.
"What are you trying to insinuate?" The other, Lust, responded. Little Dream didn't know what that word meant, but he found himself looking at the skeleton curiously, the cyan fluff of his vest tempting him to reach out and touch. It looked soft, but he wasn't confident enough to touch the other, so he let his gaze fall onto somebody else.
"It's just that your AU..." The one that held him continued. They wore pale yellows and greens, an outfit that looked much like his own. It was strange, seeing somebody so similar. Was this a long lost sibling? No, Vantablack was his only sibling, he was sure of it. So... who was this person?
Lust gave a sad sounding sigh. "You should know that all Lust variants, even the fell types, are very protective of children. More so than a lot of the other AUs. We don't expose them to anything they shouldn't be, even if our AUs are a bit more... adult," he explained somewhat bitterly.
Little Dream was looking at the red skeleton this time. He wasn't really used to seeing so many colours, since the villagers sort of all stuck to earthy tones like brown and beige, colours that were near monochrome. It was one of the reasons he and his twin stood out so much - their colours were so much more vibrant and saturated. If these people were all colourful like he was, did that mean it was safe here?
Lust continued talking, not that Little Dream paid it much mind. "Besides, we should be able to just live without being perceived as inherently sexual just because of our AU. I'm literally wearing a sweater beneath this vest and half the room still finds a way to sexualise me. That's hardly my fault. Please don't treat me differently just because of where I'm from - its not like choose which AUs we are born in.."
"...Right," The Big Dream let out somewhat uncertainty.
"SO WHERE DID THEY COME FROM? AND WHO IS GOING TO LOOK AFTER THEM?" the Fell Papyrus let out demandingly. "WE ALL KNOW INK IS TOO MUCH OF AN IDIOT TO LOOK AFTER A CHILD. OUR AU MIGHT BE VIOLENT, BUT I CAN AT LEAST ENSURE THE KID WOULD BE PROPERLY LOOKED AFTER."
That particular voice was loud and scary, but there was no anger. In fact, Little Dream could feel... protectiveness? He was much taller than the others here and had a dark aesthetic. He was scary, but the scar over their right socket reminded him of all the times he was hurt, so he couldn't help but wonder if the other had been treated similarly.
Maybe he was just spiky so nobody would want to hurt him? Maybe Little Dream should get spikes too...
"Hey! I'm not an idiot!" Ink retorted, earning several looks of doubt. Another funny looking skeleton, at least, to Little Dream. He wore whites and beige and brown, but didn't look anything like the villagers. His eyelights kept shifting to different shapes, and there were colourful vials strapped to a sash on his chest.
"I... think its best they stay at the DoodleSphere," the positive guardian reasoned. "Their magic is like mine - I don't want to risk my.... brother... trying to find them. And considering how childish Ink can be, they might actually help the kid open up more."
"Awhhh, Dreammyyy, you should've just said you wanted to have a kid–" the artist sauntered over, standing close by to look at the child closer. Big Dream swatted away his hand when they went to poke Little Dream.
"Shush, Ink, I'm still annoyed at you," Big Dream sighed. "It looks like Orange has left for now-"
"Oh, I 'sent' him home," the other interrupted with a snicker.
"Ink! You can't just..." he sighed. "I suppose it could have been worse. We need to talk later though. About Blueberry. You can't keep avoiding discussing it."
"Sure, sure, we can do that," the other let out noncommittally.
