Hello! My name is Johanna and my friend Nathaly and I are co-writing this story. We hope you enjoy it and feel free to comment if you like. Also, if you ever need to talk then we're here as well. (: We are going to try to update as frequently as possible, though it might be a bit difficult because of school. We also have our own accounts and our own stories if you would like to read them. Our usernames are johanna_153 and nathalyhenriquez . This first chapter is a bit short but most of them will be a little longer. Once again, I hope you all enjoy this book and thank you for reading all this! :D ~Johanna
I watched intently as the miniature robot slowly walked towards the finish line. My robot was in third place, and I wanted to earn those extra points so badly by finishing in first place. My mechanical creation was struggling to walk at first, but slowly it has gained speed. I smiled when my robot surpassed another one and was now in second place.
The robot that was in first place was really good. Too good. It was built by another team that had some of the smartest people in this engineering class, besides me. I don't mean to brag, but that's what my grades show.
My small creation kept fighting to get to first place. The class was divided; half were cheering for me, the other half were cheering for the other team. As I thought, my brother was not supporting me. It didn't really bother me because I expected it, but like always I thought he could at least be more respectful.
The only reason my brother took this engineering class is because he needs and extra science credit to graduate, and this was the only one left, otherwise he'd have taken one of the "cool" science classes. We may be twins, but we have nothing in common. He's the star of the football team, I can barely catch a ball. All he cares about is playing sports and semi naked girls on glossy magazine pages, while I care about my education and who I'll be in the future. We weren't always like this though. We used to play together when we were younger and talk more often but ever since we started 6th grade we got more distant and by the time we were in 10th, we were mortal enemies. I may be exaggerating a little but that's how I feel it is. I try to be the bigger person and apologize whenever we argue but he always make it worse and gets me mad all over again. He always has to have his own way, it's ridiculous.
I was zoning out apparently because the robots were almost at the finish line and I didn't notice. My robot gained more speed as its gears started turning faster and finally reached first place. I was bursting with joy, I felt unstoppable as my robot crossed the finish line. I know it's a small win, ultimately one I won't remember in the next few years, but who doesn't love winning? After all, it is extra credit.
The bell rang. This was my last class so my next stop was home.
Everyone was congratulating me on their way out; I felt great. But of course there is always that one person that can bring your whole world down just by showing up.
"Nice job, little sister"
I could feel the sarcasm from a mile away.
"I'm sure after 17 years you'd know we're twins," I unnecessarily pointed out.
"I'm older," Jack whined. "Sure, by 2 minutes and 17 seconds," I reminded him.
"Not my fault, you're the one who refused to come out," Jack insisted.
"Of course I didn't. Even as a fetus, I knew I'd have to face your ignorance when I came out," I said.
I knew he heard me, but he pretended he didn't listen and insisted his football buddies were calling him.
"Right, well I gotta go. You know football practice and other stuff you don't understand," he said as he walked away.
The frown on his face said it all. I knew he was lying. Football season was already over. I may not like sports, but I'm not completely clueless.
"I win," I muttered.
Suddenly, he turned around to face me again.
"By the way, Anya, you might want to take a look at your robot," he said with a big smirk.
Oh no, this cannot be good, I thought.
I ran to my desk and gasped as I saw how it's arms were torn off. I couldn't believe it. I worked so hard on it. I guess I shouldn't be so surprised, I should have expected it, especially from him. But I was completely shocked. On the robot, there was a post-it note. I crumbled it, releasing all my anger as I read what it said.
I win. -J
"Fine, it's a tie this time," I muttered to myself as I walked out the door.
