chapter four ✿ LANDO'S (SHITTY) MATCHMAKING SKILLS

Before anyone (read: Lando) says anything, Oscar needs to clarify that he does not believe in love at first sight.

He's an avid hater of the trope because he honestly finds it unrealistic.

Growing up with three sisters, all of whom are hopeless romantics, the responsibility of being a cynical automatically falls down on his shoulder because someone has to show his sisters (and his parents because god bless them, they are also two hopeless romantics) that love is not always roses and rainbows.

There's no particular reason for his hatred towards love and the cliches tropes and the unrealistic dreams of finding 'the one'. He just doesn't like them because of the fact that they're unrealistic and complete bullshit. And also because he's tired of the constant nagging of his family regarding his lack of love life. No matter how many times he tells them that he does not have the time for dating considering he's getting his big breakthrough in the f1 community, they don't just listen. In conclusion, the hopeless romantics of his family also have a part in making him absolutely loathe romance and every other aspect of it.

So when he walks into the paddock with Lando by his side, after getting dressed into his racing suit, he's not expecting his breath to get knocked out of his lungs.

And he's definitely not expecting to get his breath knock out of his lungs because of an orange haired girl choking on the floor while a grown man is sobbing. Oh and there's also Zak who's standing there, looking like he wants the earth to swallow him.

(Belatedly, Oscar had realised that the girl is Shin Haseul, their newest brand ambassador.)

Once again, he's putting a disclaimer that he hasn't fallen in love with her at first sight. He needs to put this statement out there because Lando has been accusing him of falling in love with Haseul at first sight, and he's totally wrong by the way.

Oscar Piastri hasn't fallen in love with Shin Haseul at first sight.

But he also can't deny the fact that he has experienced something when he had looked at her for the first time.

It might've not been love but the fluttering feeling that arose in him in that moment and his clammy palms show that there's something even if its not love. And the way she had looked at him with a coy gaze through her eyelashes with a soft smile on her face as she complimented his eyes almost had him on the floor.

Oscar is well-aware of all the memes circling the social media regarding him and Haseul and he has to give the twitter user credit that they're not wrong because as much as he hates the 'love at first sight' trope, he's also self-aware.
