"Whispers of Love and Loss"

In silent nights, I often pondered deep,
Through years of strife, its memory to keep.
Yet dawn would break, and sorrow would flee,
In the light of day, it vanishes, free.

Have you felt the sting of dreams deferred,
Of nearness felt, then swiftly deterred?
The agony of falsehoods cruelly spun,
Leaving hearts fractured, love all but done.

Countless times, death seemed a welcome friend,
A respite from the pain that seemed to never end.
Yet when blessings came, I danced and cried,
Tears of joy, no longer tears to hide.

Loss, a bitter pill, we all must swallow,
Yet to lose what's held, brings pain to follow.
Distance stings, a wound that won't repair,
Estrangement, a burial, a love laid bare.

Is love mere gestures, words left unsaid,
Or hands entwined, in silent worlds we tread?
I cannot fathom, cannot truly know,
If love's the seed that failed to grow.

But in the quiet moments, I stood near,
As you drifted off, I lingered here.
Though drink you shunned, still I waited late,
By the phone, your voice, my only fate.

The ransom paid, why keep me in the dark,
For just a glimpse, I'd brave the night's stark.
Your drunken words, a balm to soothe my soul,
In that moment, I felt truly whole.

Is it a crime to crave love's gentle touch,
To yearn for love that doesn't ask too much?
Where lies the shame, in hearts laid bare,
Still beating strong, despite the despair.

I cannot muster anger, nor curse your name,
Your joy, my joy, in love's eternal game.
I cannot stand, if you say no,
For still I love, this much I know.

So if you must depart, then go with grace,
Who am I to hold you in this sacred space?
Can we pretend, as if naught has transpired,
Remember this truth, in love, we're mired.

"For from you, a heart finds its song,
Bound to you, my love, lifelong."
