~HARRY POV~
"Babe, are you almost done in there?" I said, lightly tapping on the bathroom door. It was silent before she spoke up. "I'm almost finished. Do you think you could go pick up Preston and Angel from Jade?" her voice rung through the door. "Yeah, okay. I'll be back in a sec."
I left the apartment, my mind all over the place. Hazel chickened out and decided to just buy a few pregnancy tests at a local pharmacy, claiming she wasn't feeling that well to wait at the clinic. And I had no problem with it, I mean I'm always open to expanding our family. It's just with the whole Vicky situation, that's just another life I have to keep safe. And it's already bad enough that I feel like I'm not doing a good enough job at taking care of Hazel and Preston, the two people that mean the most to me in the world right now. I ran my hands through my hair as the elevator rode down to Jade's floor.
The elevator dinged open as I stepped out. I silently walked down the hall to Jade's door, knocking immediately. "I'm coming!" she yelled from somewhere in the back. It wasn't long before the door flew open and her small figure hid behind the door.
"Oh! Hey, Harry! Are you here to get Preston and Angel?" she peeped. "Uh, yeah. Our appointment was postponed," I quickly lied, trying to keep our situation as low-key as possible.
She opened the door wider as Angel ran up to my feet. I picked her up and stepped into the hotel room. "Preston's in the back, sleeping. I'll get his diaper bag together," she calmly smiled.
I wondered to the back room, pushing open the door and setting Angel down as my eyes settled on a slumbering Preston. A small smile formed on my lips.
Before I could walk over, a hand rested on my arm, making me jump. I turned around to see Jade smiling. "Wow, that was fast," I breathed, taking the diaper bag from her extended arm. She lightly chuckled.
I turned back to Preston, slowly picking him up and setting him in his car seat that was placed by the foot of the king sized bed. I slowly tucked him in, finding the silence awkward. "You're a really good father," she spoke up, my eyes going from Preston to her. I smiled. Before I could speak up she started talking. "I can tell you love him and Hazel very much," she said, sitting on the foot of the bed.
"I do. They mean the world to me," I said, looking down at Preston again, smiling at the slobber falling from his rose colored lips. My mind shifted to Hazel and the pregnancy test.
"Well, thank you for watching them for us," I said, slightly bending down to scoop up Angel. She took that as her cue to say goodbye.
As I made my way back to the apartment, my anxiousness grew bigger with every step I took. The possibility of Hazel being pregnant made me excited and scared. And I have to admit, being a father was one of the best things in the world. When Preston was born, which was about a year ago, I kind of wanted a girl. Another person to call my princess. But having a boy was also cool because I could teach him things Hazel couldn't, and what being a man is really like. I could be rough and stuff with him when playing sports, and even teach him how to pick up girls. The right way, of course.
I opened the door to our hotel room, setting Angel down and letting her run off while I trudged to the bedroom with Preston, expecting to see Hazel sitting teary-eyed on the bed. But she was nowhere to be found.
I put Preston in his crib and walked back to the bathroom. I could hear shuffling behind the door. "Hazel, are you done yet?" I asked softly, my only response being silence. "Hazel?" I said, twisting the doorknob. It was locked. My heart started beating faster.
I quietly sighed of relief as her small voice spoke up. "Y-yeah. I'll be out in a sec. But could you check the oven for me? I think I left something in there," she said, her voice shaking slightly. I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion, but curiously wondered to the kitchen, opening the oven and becoming even more confused.
