I was on the way to my parent's house with my son Asuka in the backseat of my car. He was looking down on the ground and was quieter than usual.

"What's wrong baby?" I asked him concerned as he slumped in his car seat and started to pout.

"I left Bing Bong at daddy's house," he said referring to his elephant plushie.

Every time I hear him mentioning something about his father my mood always gets brought down a little because it makes me think of one man who that title belongs to. Satoru Gojo.

Great now he's going to be moody all day...

It's only been a couple of months since Satoru and I's divorce after five years of marriage and we're still in the process of trying to finalize it. There was still a couple of things we couldn't agree on. Such as who would have full custody over Asuka since I want to move to America and he wants to stay in Japan.

Let's hope we get there soon...

Our marriage for the first two years was good until it wasn't. We were polar opposites and couldn't agree on anything. He was the fun parent and partner while to him I was just a stick in the mud. He made sure I knew that too when he called me boring and genuinely meant it. He knew it hurt me because he was one of the few people who knew everything about me and thought I wasn't more interesting than watching paint dry on a wall. Despite that we tried to go for a little longer because of Asuka but we just couldn't take it anymore and decided it would be best if we separated. I had to leave the man I have known for ten years and I haven't spoken to him since the separation. Even when I drop him off at his father's house.

Almost there...

I was such a mess when we decided to get separated that the only people I could tell about my divorce was my parents and my best friend Aoi. I've known her since childhood and she was actually our maid of honor at the wedding. I was too embarrassed to tell anyone about my failed marriage because everyone thought if there was a couple that would last forever it would be us. So even if I think love doesn't last forever anymore it doesn't mean I have to shatter their hope right?

Good we're here

As I pulled up in my parents driveway I knew there was something off. There was an extra car there that I didn't recognize. It looked fancy and expensive too.

What's going on here?

After I helped my son with getting out of the car I had his hand in mine as we walked to the front door. I knocked on the door with my free hand to make my presence aware before I unlocked the door since I had a key to their house.

Whose voice is that? It sounds familiar...

I walked to the living room and saw my parents sitting awkwardly on the couch with that third person whose voice I heard. I felt my heart stop when I saw her.

Grandmother... why are you here?

She was an elegant looking woman who always wore the pearls she received from her late husband. Everything about her screamed that she was a classy wealthy woman. The way she talked, the way she walked, the way she looked, and the way she carried herself. She didn't look too different from what I've seen in pictures besides the fact that she looks a little more tired.

A million of questions are racing through my mind right now...

My grandmother hasn't seen me since I was born. Her relationship became strained with my mother when she decided to leave the family and the money for my father. It wasn't a hard decision for her to make since they weren't really close anyway when my mom was growing up. My grandmother thought money solved problems while my mom just wanted her mother's love. My dad gave her love that was she was missing for 17 years. The only way I've ever heard of my grandmother was through being shown pictures or videos.
