Chapter 1

I looked into the mirror one more time, checking my hair to make sure it was all in place. My make-up was fine, I didn't really care much for that, it would all start to rub off in a few hours. I straightened my collar and buttoned one more button, tucking it into my shorts. This was one of my favorite outfits. The sunset looking ombre, tank top, blouse with a pair of dark shorts and sandals. It was cool and perfect for the summer.

The doorbell rang and I grabbed my phone, running out my bedroom door. I hit the stairs faster then feeding time for the Paranas. I swung the door open in a hurry to see his face, I could hear it break through the wall behind. I instantly clenched my fists and scrunched my face looking a bit dumb. It didn't last but a second; I jumped into his arms, getting a bit dizzy.

I hadn't seen him in about a week. He had to go to Arizona for part of his job. He worked for the Monster company, traveling around the United States promoting the famous energy drink, Monster. Personally, I love the drink! It puts a kick in your mouth every sip. I supported him... a lot. Though it hurts to be away from him so much, he only leaves about once every 2 months or whatever. Sometimes more frequently. Once I don't feel so bad about leaving my precious family, I'm certainly going with him. I am 20, almost to the legal drinking age! It's not that my parents won't allow me to go, I just can't hurt them like that, they mean so much.

"Hey babe." His sweet, raspy voice whispered in my ear, making my body twitch. He had his arms around me, squeezing us together. He towered over me by a huge amount. He's about 6'1 and I'm 5'4, it's not like I care though, having the guy taller isn't much of a problem for me.

His soft lips caressed my neck and I giggled. "I missed you so much!" I leaned away from his grip and smiled. "So what's the deal for today?"

He laughed. "Well... I was thinking we should go to the park and have a picnic." He looked behind himself to his baby blue Jeep. I followed his seeking holes to the classic picnic basket sitting in the back seat.

I grabbed his hand and the door knob at the same time, closing the door and dragging him to the car. Sometimes I could act like a little kid I must admit. But, I mean, when you haven't seen the love of your life for a while, I can't help it. I knew this was going to be fun, we could do anything together and it would be fun.

As soon as he cranked the motor, I reached for the radio button. The first song to show was our favorite...

Another unclever word sets off an unsuspecting herd

And as you step back in the line a mob jumps to their feet

Now dance, fucker, dance, man, he never had a chance

And no one even knew, it was really only you

You're Gunna Go Far Kid by The Offspring, one of our favorite songs. We sang it in unison until the whole song was over. He had one hand on the steering wheel and the other on my leg. The wind blew nicely, making my once perfect hair a hot mess.

"What are you gunna do about the hole in the wall?" He slightly yelled over the blasting music. I reached for it and turned it down for him to repeat. "What are you going to do about that hole?"

It took me a second to realize what he was talking about... "Oh that hole!" I thought out loud, it was followed by a mental 'that's what she said'. "Well... I don't know. Maybe cover it up with some duck tape, ya know, cause duck tape fixes everything." I was actually being legitimate but he took it as a joke. I thought about what I said then laughed along, it was quite stupid.

"You're just too damn adorable, ya know that?" His smile was brighter then the sun and his shades were dark so I couldn't see his beautiful blue/green eyes sparkle, what a disappointment.

I did some weird girly giggle laugh thing and hid my cherry shaded face in my hands. Blushing was not my favorite thing, quite frankly, I hated blushing! I mean, who doesn't? It makes you look so weird and just... weird. I rubbed my eyes and picked my head up, smiling. "Do you know that- SQUIRREL!" I screamed as we hit the poor helpless animal. It was a bit of a bump. He slowed down and I jumped out of the car, running to the squirrel. Ehren slowly followed kind of slumping over. We both loved animals, me a bit more. I hated seeing them hurt, I was the kind of person who would go out of their way to nurse an animal back to life.

I was kneeled down beside the squirrel and he was still alive. Thank the Lord! He only had his guts plummeting out of him, nothing big. "Is he okay?" Ehren hit the ground and I hugged him tight. It was only an accident, just for a second he wasn't paying attention, it's humanity.

"It's okay. If we can get him stitched up, I think he'll be fine." I stood up and went for the picnic basket, laying our lunch in the back seat, I took the basket back over to the squirrel. I gently picked him up and put him in the basket. I had his blood over my hands... disgusting. It was a good thing we weren't to far from my house, maybe only 10 minutes.

I've been going to the local community college, 2 years was all I needed to make up for classes I didn't get to take in high school. I wanted to be a veterinarian, it's what I've always wanted to do with my life. A good way to make some money and be able to provide for a large family. Because of this dream I've had since I was 5, I have got some materials to perform a casual surgery on a small animal.

Everything was quiet for half of the time, awkward as well. "I'm not upset with you, sweetheart." I laid my hand on his leg and he flinched slightly. I felt terrible. When I screamed, I did sound harsh and mean. I rarely yelled so I guess he took it as I was really mad at him. "I love you. I'm not mad at you." I tried again.

"I love you too." His voice was low instead of sweet and raspy. We pulled into my driveway and I hopped out, he followed behind me as I quickly walked through my house. I got to the kitchen, laid the box on the counter and went to the only drauer that would have these specific materials. I picked each of them out and laid them neatly on the counter. Ehren helped by grabbing a towel and laying it down with the squirrel on it. I pulled my disposable gloves up my hands and started. It didn't take long to do this either. The stitches were short and stealthy, one-by-one I sewed up the gash.

"Wahlah! It's alive!" I exagerated a bit, throwing my messy gloves in the trash. I went down stairs into my basement and searched real hard for our cage. It had been a while since I've been down here so I wasn't exactly sure where anything was. I didn't think anyone had followed me down here until I felt warm muscular arms reach around my waste and pick me up.

I giggled and bent forward, kissing his hands. He straightened me and whispered in my ear, "I'm sorry for running the squirrel over, I was distracted by your beauty. Please forgive me." I could hear the smile in his voice.

"I was never mad at you nor can I ever be mad at you, I love you to much." I smiled as he gently put me on the ground, I grabbed his wrist and pulled him down closer to my face. I cocked my head and pushed a little harder off the ground to reach his lips. I passionately kissed him, our lips moved in a single motion only making this moment so much better. If it wasn't for our lungs needing oxygen, I would have never pulled away. The reason for my death would be kissing; I love this boy so much, my airways are going to be to busy trying to prove it to him... if you know what I mean ;).

"I need help trying to find this cage." I let go of him and walked down a long narrow path through a bunch of junk. He followed and used his seeking holes to seek out the cage. At the same time, we both pointed towards it and yelled, "Found it!" I raced to it, triping over something. Lucky me, I caught myself. I picked the cage up and stared at it. It wasn't that small, quite big actually, perfect for a squirrel to live in.
