Thomas never noticed the way he looked at Jane. That is until Theo tells him about it. Theo tells him a lot. He tells him how whenever Jane laugh at a joke, his own eyes shine even brighter than hers. Whenever she does something that she's passionate about, she bites her tongue and slightly squint her eyes, and when she does, his heart seems to skip a beat as a warm feeling spread in his chest.

Oh, but how he could never tell her. They started together, two matches in a closed box, but as it opened, so did her heart, and she flared up, lighting a way to guide other to her while he hid away, hoping she'd come back to him. She distanced herself, not intentionally of course, she just made her own friends and drifted away

Thomas never let her go though. He was always looking out for her, whether her books fell down the stairs or a friend was making fun of her, he was always there like a safety net to catch her when she had trouble standing up because life kept pushing her down.

Until life pushed too far. It was strange because she was always smiling. At the start as well as the end, she never stopped. She was a smiling soul with a smiling heart. The only thing left of her now was a smiling tomb, wet with the tears shed on her behalf.

Thomas comes often, to try and feel closer to her, only being separated by the 6 ft. of earth that differentiate the living from the dead. He reminisces about all the times he played with her, joked with her, talked to her, but mostly about the times he wish he has done more. The times when he walked past her and wanted to tell her how bright she looked, how radiant she was becoming by the day. How, through health and sickness, she kept a smile on her face, bringing one to the lips of everyone who saw her.

Now that she was gone, he noticed the hole in his life, half as big as the one in his heart.

Thomas never noticed the way he looked at Jane.

And so, he would never notice the way Theo looks at him.
