"Lyra."

His voice seemed small. Distant, almost.

I fought to stay awake. The good lord above granted me that, for one moment, I could lay my sad and dying eyes on Shinora. My Shinora.

"Lyra. Please, stay with me."

He looked so beautiful. And I couldn't hang on a day longer to keep waking up to him.

Somehow I managed to muster up the strength to lift my hand, to gently grab his hand. I stared, half-lidded as I spoke,

"I'll miss you." By no means was I trying to scare him. It was time. Some hourglass was draining. I felt his opposite hand prodding at the wound, in a failed attempt to get me to stop losing blood. His gorgeous golden brown eyes pricked with tears, and I wish they hadn't.

"Please. Oh, god, don't speak like that. You're okay, you're going to be okay." He brushed his nose against mine. I had a little more time. I knew I did.

"Shinora,-" I rasped out, and only then did I realize I'd been crying too. It was taking so much energy. "-we'll meet again. I know of it."

"No!" He wailed. Distant again. "My love, please stay awake. Please don't leave me." Everything went dark. It felt like I was outside of my own body.

"I've got you."

Even then, I couldn't have died happier without feeling his warm touch against my cold, lifeless body.

"What's that?" My boyfriend swung his legs over the arm of the couch, laying his head in my lap.

I rolled my eyes and chuckled at his actions. "Hello to you too. It's some kind of mythology book, I've had my nose stuck in it for the past week or so."

"Yeah? What's it about? You don't have to tell me the genre, I already know what you're into." I laughed, flicking his nose playfully.

"What a gentleman. Always remembering the smallest things." I exaggerated, closing the book and setting it on the table closest to me, my fingers starting to run through his dusty angelic hair.

"It's about this sea goddess and an angel. They fall in love, get married," I adjust my legs, making sure he was comfortable,

"but at the end the goddess goes to war with another kingdom, and by the time the angel comes down to aid her, she's already wounded badly. I assume you could guess where it goes from there."

He nods in acknowledgment, but I could tell by the way he reacted to my nails lightly scraping against his scalp, he was drifting to sleep.

"Sleepy?"

"Yeah. Great story, though. You have to read it to me when I wake up, 'kay?" I chuckled, nodding in agreement. There was a beat of silence.

"You want to know something I find funny about it?" He nodded in response as I continued to stroke his hair.

"Hm?"

"Their names were Lyra and Shinora, too."
