As I walked through the polished corridors of the FBI headquarters, my heart raced with a mix of excitement and nervousness. Today marked the beginning of my career as a field agent, a dream I had chased tirelessly since I was a kid. But as I entered the bustling office of the Special Investigations Unit, the warm glow of anticipation dimmed slightly.

My new boss, Diana Stevens, was a force to be reckoned with. Her sharp gaze seemed to pierce through my facade, sizing me up with every glance. And as luck would have it, she was the one assigned to mentor me through my first case.

"Diana," I greeted her with a nervous smile as I approached her desk. She barely looked up from her computer, her expression unreadable.

"Roman," she replied curtly, motioning for me to take a seat across from her. "I trust you're ready to dive into your first assignment."

I nodded eagerly, trying to ignore the sinking feeling in my stomach. Diana slid a thick file across the desk towards me, the weight of it hitting me like a ton of bricks. "This is the case no one wants," she explained, her tone laced with a hint of disdain. "A series of assassinations with no clear motive, no suspects, nothing. Just a string of seemingly random deaths."

I opened the file, my eyes scanning over the details of each case. The victims ranged from high-profile politicians to ordinary citizens, their deaths connected only by their apparent lack of motive. It was a puzzle with no solution, a mystery that had stumped even the most seasoned agents.

"I want you to dig deeper," Diana continued, her voice snapping me out of my reverie. "Find something, anything, that can help us crack this case wide open. And don't disappoint me, Roman."

I knew that since I was new I couldn't be quick to disappoint.

With a sense of determination burning in my chest, I nodded silently, gripping the file tightly in my hands. As I left Diana's office, the weight of her expectations hung heavy on my shoulders. But I refused to let her or anyone else see me as weak. This case was my chance to prove myself, to show them all what I was capable of.

With a renewed sense of purpose, I set out to unravel the mystery that lay before me. Little did I know, this case would not only test my skills as an agent but also lead me down a path I never could have imagined—one that would change my life forever.

I didn't know whoever was behind these killings, but I knew they were a ghost.
