I believe this all started when the royal family found out about immortality, they say it's a myth that there are people who can escape death permanently. But what they failed to realise is that they must be born with such power to obtain it.. Like me...

I hate to remember that night, but after my dad's "disappearance" I heard a faint sound calling for me, I felt a sharp pain in my heart. I knew he died... A few minutes later 3 royal guards Burst through the door, chanting arcane words and lightly tossing shimmering dust into the air. That's when my mum started acting weird.

people started going missing... Not just physically but vanishing from existing... from memory. I tried everything to undo what had been done. The spell they cast on this kingdom is too strong and I was only 8 years old... I was 8 for a long time. I kept going back to that same night trying to find my dad, to warn him or prevent this from happening in the first place. I went back over and over.

I stopped counting after a while and just pretended like everyone else. I couldn't risk getting caught, so I started noting down what I knew... Most are just theories but what I know for sure is that when one disappears they are gone from every point in time so going back won't save anyone... including my mum.

Until I met an idiot.

"HEY WHY DID YOU CALL ME AN IDIOT??!" Theo yelled holding my journal, I raised my hand commanding the book to float and place itself on my desk.

"When will you teach me how to do stuff like that?"

"You hate memorising spells" I replied. "Not to mention you can't even control your wand" without even looking. I just know his face frowned.

I grabbed the spell book with a pen and sat in front of Theo holding his arm. "This one is new... You can push things away from you by aiming your wand at them" I say as I write down the spell on his arm for him to remember, theo jumps from his seat onto the small table yelling "Duwken!"

"Yelling does nothing.. Just mouth it quietly"

"But that's not fun! Stop making everything so boring" he got down off the table and started packing.

At this time every week, we go to our hideout, it's an old abandoned rhyme we practice new spells and have fun... well I practice new spells Theo just have fun.

I met Theo when I was ten. I was reading outside when a tapping on a glass caught my attention. Looking up, I noticed a young boy crying by a window across the street. Curious, I went to the house which was also the famous blacksmith shop.. I had second thoughts as I stood one foot away from the door.

The blacksmith works for the royal family, this is troubling but before I could leave the door opened and the same boy looked at me and whispered. "My parents are ignoring me... do you see me?"

I nodded. I wasn't supposed to tell anyone about my secret but this time maybe I could help him. I walked inside "I can help you... But can you keep a secret?"

his eyes sparkled "YES I CAN!!" He walked me to his room and I took out my book. "Do you have a picture of your parents?" I asked. He then brings a drawing he drew. I sighed. "That will do"

I place the picture down and motion to him to back away... I take a deep breath and open my book. The strings of my hair started to float and so did most of the things in the room.

I cleared my throat and chanted:

"In shadows deep where silence lies,

With the moon's soft gleam and star-filled skies,

We call upon the ancient might,

To bring forgotten memories to light.

With heart's pure hope and soul's bright plea,

Unlock the doors, set mindsets free,

Let bygone times return anew,

With clarity, like morning dew.

From silence now, the echoes sound,

Where once was lost, let now be found,

By will and word, so let it be,

Restore the past, set memories free."

His parents returned after the ritual, I immediately started to clean the mess and hid my book. My mind was racing "What have I done? Is he going to tell? I don't want to be the reason he is gone!"

"Good morning Theo sorry we had to work early this morning.." a soft voice said. I followed it to find myself on the stairs looking down at what seemed like this boy's parents.

The same voice spoke again "Oh who is your friend Theo?"

"Charlot.. My name is Charlot. I live across the street with my p- mum.." I replied walking down the stairs. His parents have the same expression as everyone else. And say the same old dialogue just like everyone else... But Theo seems normal... Like me.

Well.. almost he wasn't born with or given any power he just hid whenever the guard came to visit to throw the dust. We became close. He is the only person who I can talk to and not feel like I'm losing my mind.

We got to our hide-out. Theo throws his bag and runs to a broken platform that looks like a stage, he turns towards me. A heroic smirk is drawn on his face. "Test me!" he yelled, moving his wand around.

"Don't go too wild," I throw a rock at him to practice on as I lay down reading my book. After a while, he starts to stare at me with what he thinks are dough eyes but in fact, he just looks stupid, I sigh. "Fine... DON'T OPEN MY SPELLS" I hold the spell book as I warn him.

"Okay okay... It's not like I did that before"

"Don't get me started" I go back to reading and noting in my journal. Deep down I know Theo doesn't want to leave... We are only 15 or at least he is. I waited this long, what's a little while longer.

I reach into my bag and grab a sandwich. Theo stops running around... I reach again and grab another sandwich waving it for him.

"Thank you!" He sat next to me unwrapping the sandwich.

"Don't mention it."

"What are you writing?"

I closed the book. "Nothing"

"Hey I saw my name in there, what are you saying about me?" He tried to reach the book but it was already hovering 3 feet above us.

Theo punches my arm "Stop it will you this isn't funny"

"Use your wand idiot," I say, filling my mouth with my sandwich.

Theo waves his wand towards the book but then aims it towards me, I look at him confused.

"Duwken" he silently mouths it, I get shoved away and the book drops into his hand. "How was that?" he said walking my way with that same smirk drawn on his face.

"Not bad" he hands me the book and gets back to whatever he was doing.

Truly not bad.
