He can't even look me in the eyes.
"If you knew that I would have said no..." I take a deep breath before I lash out at him. "THEN WHY BRING.. THIS THING HERE!"
"My name is Ed."
He stroked a nerve. I aim my hand at him, my book hovering towards me opening itself to my spells section. Ed's eyes widened in surprise and before I could do anything Theo stood in front of me, his big brown eyes looking at me with... fear. He never looks at me like that.
I rested my shoulders, my book dropped to the floor.
"Theo, Can we talk?" I asked.
"Yeah sure.." we walked to the bedroom. "Wait here" he said to Ed.
Theo sits on the bed waiting for me to gather my thoughts, as I walk in circles. My eyes started to glow and all the boxes in the room started to shake. How could he do this? I stumped my foot loudly which made everything fly out of its place, all the shelves are cleared from papers and books. All of Theo's drawings that were hanging on the wall ripped out of its place.
Theo fixed his posture and gulped anxiously, I stood before him, my hands tied behind my back. "What do the royals use..?"
"Magic?"
"Yes." I smile. "Now tell me, what sounds magical to you? The moon pulling the water to the shore or a "plague" that appeared out of nowhere to wipe a whole town out of existence?" I squinted my eyes in anger waiting for an answer. He opens his mouth and before he spits out wacky nonsense I ask him "and what do you think the royals would do if they discovered that one of the people they tried to kill had survived??!"
I stepped closer and lowered my voice to keep Ed from hearing me, not that I don't want to scare him but to let Theo know that I'm serious. "They could kill him, or worse..." I turn my back looking at the mess.
"You weren't there... It was daunting. A hollow sound creeping in and out of every house. Charlot, I couldn't leave him there." Theo said.
Our very much awkward staring contest got interrupted by the door being shut. We both ran to the other room where my desk is and Ed is gone!
I flung open the door, urging us to rush out in search of him. Theo dashed ahead, shouting his name, and soon spotted him darting toward the woods. Grabbing my spell book, I closed the office door and sprinted after Theo.
"WOULD IT KILL YOU IF YOU WERE NICE TO HIM?!"
"PAINT ME AS THE BAD GUY" I ran by his side keeping up with him. "Look, I sometimes lose my temper.." Theo stays quiet, which speaks volume.
"Ok I always lose my temperature" we stop to catch our breaths, "But you have no idea what it feels like to desperately hold on to the memory of someone only you remember, and then that memory slowly fades away. You can't even remember their face, the face you always looked at. Their smell starts to become less familiar each day, and there is nothing you can do about it."
"So why don't we hold on to his memory?"
I look confused. "What?"
"Do you think Ed wants to be forgotten? Lets remember his face.. His smell and the way he sounds. We have a memory here and you want to let it go? That goes against everything we do at Big Ideas HQ!"
Theo smiled running into the woods, I took a moment before running with him.
"And for your information it will never be Big Ideas HQ" I remind him.
After walking around the forest, the path became familiar. It leads to our hide-out. There he was, sitting in the middle of the abandoned realm, Theo ran to him shouting his name, I slowly approached them. Theo sat next to Ed, I sat across them forming a little triangle.
