"And that's a wrap for today, good job everyone," Kristal turned around from the wrecked stage behind her, trying to ignore the disaster. She took a deep breath in and forced a smile, "now I need to go sit down."
Derek called after her, "I'll go with you!" He started to walk with her back to their production camp. Trevor watched as they walked away into the dark, their silhouettes slowly fading into the night. He sighed.
"Trevor?" A voice came from behind him.
"AHH!" Trevor whipped around and was met with the face of Emily, she looked sadder than her usual snarky look, of course it could be the darkness playing tricks on his eyes. "Oh, hey Emily," Trevor tried to put some enthusiasm in his voice, but it was far too late and he was far too tired. Today had been such a long day and all Trevor wanted to do was lay in bed.
"You know, as much as I love seeing miserable interns like you, I have unfortunately grown to like you...I guess I feel bad for you?" Emily said looking at the ground, her arms crossed. Trevor really hasn't ever seen Emily ever show empathy for him or Derek so her saying this came as a shock. Trevor looked back out into the darkness trying to look for the outline of his two coworkers, but they were gone completely.
Trevor looked back towards Emily, "You...do?" He didn't attempt to deny the fact that he was sad, Emily had picked her head up to look at Trevor, she sighed and pulled him in for a hug, wrapping her arms around him and patting his back.
"It's okay Trevor," she whispered as Trevor hugged her back, it had been a long time since Trevor had been hugged like this, as much as he hurt, he couldn't help but feel comforted. He pulled away from the hug and smiled at Emily.
"Now that the sappy parts are over, let's go get some ice cream," Emily had already been moving towards her car, not waiting for Trevor.
"Wait, but don't we have to tell Kristal when we leave?" Trevor said, looking around nervously catching up to Emily.
"Oh come on, what's life without a little risk?" She nodded at him to get in the car, and he did just that, unbothered about disobeying Kristal's rules.
"There's a little ice cream shop not too far from here," Emily said as she started the car, and adjusting the mirrors took a minute to make sure her makeup was still intact. She smiled looking at herself, Tevor laughed at this.
"Oh come on Emily," he laughed, he had barely laughed all day.
"My bad," she rolled her eyes and pulled out of the staff lot. Trevor had reached for the radio and Emily slapped his hand away. "Hey! My car, my music," she suddenly pulled out her phone quickly and bluetoothed her car music, Trevor recognized it immediately as Emily had played it for him before.
Emily was now cruising along the road, Emily started singing the song while Trevor laughed at her, forgetting about all the crap that went down that day with the singing competition.
"Bitch, you know I'm sexy
Uh, don't call just text me
Bitches slow, can't get on my speed, Come on Trevor, you know this part!" Emily looked over to Trevor and he rolled his eyes smiling and singing along.
"I-T G-I-R-L
You know I am that girl
Shh, bitch don't kiss and tell
It girl from ATL"
They both were now driving along the desolate road forgetting about anything else in the world. Trevor realized this is what it was like to have a best friend, and he wouldn't give it up for anything.

They pulled into the roadside ice cream shop and got out of the car "Emily, don't worry I'll pay for you," Trevor said to Emily as they got out of the car.
"Yeaaaah... I was gonna make you anyway," she laughed and followed behind Trevor towards the front window.
"Emily, what do you want?"
"Just a vanilla cone is fine," she shrugged, then went on her phone sitting on a nearby bench.
"Okay, so one vanilla cone and one-"
A voice from behind "Large strawberry concrete with brownies, whipped cream, sprinkles and two cherries"
Trevor whipped around and met Derek. Face to face. His face instantly turned red, although he really didn't know why, "Derek?!"
Derek slid his credit card forward to pay for the ice creams, he gave Trevor a smirk, took his credit card back and walked over to his own table.
With Kristal.
