In the dark and dreary future of the 50th century. All life has ceased to exist within the planet known as Earth. Once thriving with vegetation and life now reduced to a hapless waste planet. What happened to Earth, you may ask?
Boy: Humanity happened. The world collapsed from human ambition and greed.
Girl: If all of that happened because humans were neglecting the earth's stability, then why didn't they stop and make a solution to save the planet?
Boy: That's the thing, after they realized that the world was collapsing and becoming inhospitable for human life, they decided the best course of action was to leave rather than save it. Millions of people died, all because of a few groups of people's selfish desires.
Girl: What were they after? Why did they plunge the world into this irrecoverable state? A world once full of verdant nature and beauty, reduced to a floating rock orbiting a collapsing star.
Boys: Humanity does not need a reason for its actions, all it needs is ambition to strive for progress and the greed to risk everything. They've discovered that there was an incomprehensible mineral that could only be found at the earths core. It was a very strong mineral that cannot be melted by any means, but had the distinct properties of a liquid. Almost as it can be shaped with just willpower alone. After it was found, they tried to keep it secret from the rest of the world. Unfortunately, what they did not anticipate were enemies within the ranks of their own military.
Girl: So they sold the info to other countries?
Boy: Precisely, after it had been publicized that a certain country had access to a very rare and strong material that can be weaponized. Every other country that didn't want to fall behind on their military strength conducted excavations to procure this substance for their own.
Girl: No wonder that floating rock is full of holes now.
Boy: It's comparable to an asteroid at this point. Once they've dug up all the material that could be had. All that's left is to test out their new toys. What they didn't anticipate is the metal had a certain property that was undetectable through normal means of scanning and was corrupting the humans, slowly debilitating them to the point where they became nothing but mindless brain rotted creatures.
Girl: Gross, they became zombies?
Boy: In a sense, yes. They were practically indistinguishable from these zombies you see on movies. What made them different from your regular zombie is that they were still alive, just mindless and brain rotted.
Girl: So just your average TikTok 3.0 user.l
Boy: Pretty much. Anyway, that practically sums up what happened. The humans couldn't let go of the rare material, and they didn't have the means to reduce nor protect themselves from its debilitating side effects.
Girl: That's it? Why didn't they just throw it away or lock it up?
Boy: Well, you see, once the material fully corrupts a human it takes over their body, and it gains sentience. Once it realized its purpose, it went berserk. Becoming an unstoppable, unbreakable killing machine. This happened all over the planet and completely wiped half of the population. With no means of fighting back, humanity had no choice but to escape in the hopes of finding salvation among the stars.
Girl: So they left because they couldn't stop the zombified terminators?
Boy: It was purely for that reason and for another. The world was unrecoverable, too much damage to the ecosystem of the planet caused too many calamities to occur, and it became inhospitable to the point where the world felt like it was plunging into a new ice age was planning to reset the world. As it was happening, humanity fled to a new planet where they could colonize and repopulate their once flourishing civilization. That's where we are today.
In Kepler 2.2B.
Girl: Wow! So that's why we're here? Neat.
Boy: Let's hope our history does not repeat, thanks in kind to our predecessor's follies.
