The following days Reece rang Marjories cellphone, she however didn't pick up and he instead called the office, where his sister kept answering telling him that Marjorie was off sick.
"Marjorie is never sick" he snickered to Autumn on the third day "what is going on?"
"I don't know big brother, she's not been in since monday" Autumn sighed, she was about to go to Marjorie to ask her herself because she didn't want to handle the parents herself. They drove her nuts, and combined with morning sickness she was exhausted.
"Reece, I'll go see her in a bit, ok?" She was actually worried for both her brother and her best friend, she didn't understand why Marjorie had just dropped face of earth.
Marjorie saw her phone ring again, it was thursday and Reece had called her every day, left message after message that she didn't listen to because it hurt to much. Even Autumn had called her, asking why she was sick but Marjorie just mumbled a lie about a migrane and nausea, though the nausea wasn't a lie. She'd been feeling sick since the weekend, even before Reece left. During the evening she'd finally gone down to get her phone and saw the roses, the note and the pancakes. He'd been so caring and left her favourite food for her, he'd taken time after her outburst to care for her. She didn't deserve him, that was all she knew, not after how she acted, she was irrational to think he'd cheat on her with Char, Char who was so deeply in love with Mia. Marjorie knew this, deep inside but the years of men and betrayal had put scars in her heart, in her mind, in her confidence. Reece could have anyone, he didn't need her, she was just a distraction as he once had told her, he just flirted a little for fun.
As she took her eyes of the fridge Marjorie noted the date, june 4th, and suddenly her head spun at the same time the doorbell rang.
She scuffled over to the door to find Autumn outside
"Hey.." she mumbled as the door flung open.
"Marjorie? What is going on? Why are you sick? What have you done to my brother? He's walking around the nursery like a lost puppy, he's all sad and he keeps saying he regrets talking to Char" The questions didn't stop flowing out of Autumn mouth.
"Autumn.. I think i'm pregnant" Marjorie said as she fell to the floor, sobs wrecking her body.
"okay" the answer was simple and calm and Autumn quickly texted Charlotte please come to marjories quick, bring two pregnancy tests.
Autumn then kneeled down and put a soft hand on marjories back, softly rubbing it up and down in a small effort to support her friend.
It only took Charlotte a few minutes to get over and she ran through the door, out of breath, carrying a small bag.
"Marjorie? Come, Let's go take this test and then we will figure everything out" Autumn grabbed her hand and pulled Marjorie with her to the bathroom, Charlotte following closely behind.
"Take this and then we'll have a little chat" they left her in the bathroom, a white stick in hand and her heart in her throath.
Two deep breaths and a minute later she slowly opened the door and slowly walked out to Autumn and Chat waiting for her in the hallway, both silent and calm.
"it's going to be ok" Char said and pulled Marjorie in for a hug.
"It's not the worst thing that can happen" she continued and Autumn nodded in agreement.
"The wait is the hardest" she said, making both Marjorie and Charlotte turn.
"What?" They both said as Autumn realised her slip.
"I'm pregnant" Autumn realised it was to late, and maybe it would help Marjorie to relax for a few minutes.
For a moment they all stood in the hallway staring at eachother until Charlotte reached out to Autumn and grabbed her hand.
"Congratulations, how are you feeling?"
"I'm just nauseaus but otherwise fine" Autumn felt relieved now that her friends knew, Charlotte had the experience of pregnancy and raising children, she knew she'd support her in the best way and Marjorie.. well they could just as easily get to go through pregnancy together.
Marjorie just smiled at Autumn "congratulations, i'm happy for you.. if you are happy?!"
Autumn grabbed Marjories hand and slowly smiled at her. "We are very happy"
To break their spell the alarm rang and Marjorie started to tremble, she wasn't sure she was ready to know the answer, the little bubble they just created was good for her mind but she slowly stood up and pulled her friends with her. If the test was negative she'd need them to hold her up, if it was positive she'd need them to dry her tears.
Slowly she grabbed the stick on the sink and turned it over.
A big fat Pregnant filled the window and for a moment Marjorie forgot to breathe, she was pregnant, with Reeces child, her lifelong dream was so close, until she remembered she dumped him, she left him and told him she didn't want him back. The tears fell down her face , slowly Charlotte dried them off one by one, she knew what had happened because Reece had asked her to help him understand.
Autumn slowly reached out and pulled Marjorie into a hug, softly patting her back.
"Do you want me to call Reece?" She whispered
Marjorie shook her head and started sobbing, her knees suddenly no longer holding her up and she stood standing only because Autumn was her support.
