Andy was driving home from work when his phone rang. It was his grandma. He answered cheerfully, "Hi Grandma!" But instead of a warm greeting, all he heard were screams.
"Grandma? Grandma!" Andy shouted, but the line went dead. Heart pounding, he immediately called his boss, Mike.
"Mike, it's Andy. I need to take off work. Something's wrong with my grandma."
Mike sighed on the other end, "I'm sorry Andy, you can't take off. We're understaffed because of this sickness."
Andy pleaded, "Please, Mike, it's my grandma!"
After a tense pause, Mike relented slightly, "Alright, you can leave early, but we need you back tomorrow."
"Thank you, Mike. I owe you one," Andy said, relief flooding his voice.
As soon as his shift ended early, Andy jumped into his car and sped towards his grandma's house. The sun had already begun to set, casting long shadows across the deserted highway.
Driving through the twilight, Andy fought off waves of fatigue. His eyes fluttered shut, but he jerked awake, narrowly avoiding the ditch. He realized he was on an eerily empty highway. No cars, no lights, no signs of life.
He finally spotted a gas station and pulled over. The lights were on, but there was no one inside. He stepped out and shouted, "Is anyone out there?"
His voice echoed in the silence. Andy filled up his tank and grabbed some food, but the deserted gas station made his skin crawl. He got back on the highway, hoping to reach his grandma soon.
Fifteen minutes later, he noticed something unsettling. The highway seemed to stretch endlessly, the same barren landscape repeating over and over. Panic set in as he realized he might be trapped. He pressed the accelerator, his heart racing.
Suddenly, he swerved to avoid an imaginary obstacle, losing control of the car. The vehicle skidded off the road and crashed. Andy blacked out.
When he came to, the car was upside down, and he smelled smoke. Flames were licking at the edges of the wreck. With all his strength, he unbuckled himself and crawled out, just as the car exploded behind him. He lay on the cold ground, breathing heavily, surrounded by the eerie silence of the infinite highway.suddenly he received a call from his grandma and she said that she was alright.Andy woke up and was on the normal highway
