Oliver froze, he didn't know what to say. He turned around slowly to look at his sister.
"Did you hear me? I asked what the fuck you were doing?" She said, looking him up and down. "Those boots don't go with that skirt."
Oliver was taken aback. Out of all of the possible responses that went through his head, this was not what he was expecting. His heart was still racing, pounding in his chest like it was about to burst out. "W-what?"
Alyssa put her bags down on her bed and picked up her Converse, throwing them over to Oliver. "Here. Put these on instead."
Oliver was terrified and full of anxiety. Not knowing what else to do, he quickly took off the boots and put the Converse on. He caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror. Alyssa was right, this did look better. Oliver straightened himself up and looked back at his sister, still not knowing what to say.
Alyssa sat down on her bed and looked at Oliver. She looked him up and down again. "Are you just gonna stand there or are you gonna sit down and explain what's going on?"
Oliver sat down across from Alyssa. Words still couldn't come to him. "I... I'm sorry."
"It's a bit creepy that you went through my stuff, especially my underwear drawer, but I don't care about that right now. What's going on with you, Oli?" Alyssa said.
"I... I don't know." Oliver said.
Alyssa sighed. "Does this have anything to do with our conversation the other day?"
Oliver sighed. He didn't want to hide from his sister, but he didn't know what to say... Or how to say it. He just nodded. "Yeah, I guess..."
"So you want to be a girl?" Alyssa asked.
Oliver shrugged. "I don't know. Seeing other girls in school always made me feel weird and I'd wish I was them sometimes, but I don't know if I wanna be a girl."
Alyssa smiled. "I think you might. Before I said anything, I saw the big grin on your face when you looked in the mirror. I've never seen you that happy before."
Oliver smiled a little. "I guess, but I don't know..."
"See, even just thinking about it is making you smile." Alyssa said. "For what it's worth, you do look really good."
"Thanks." Oliver blushed a little. "If I did wanna be a girl... How would you feel about that?"
Alyssa thought for a second. "I can't deny that it'd be weird at first, because you've been my brother for fifteen years, but I've always wanted a sister. If it makes you happy, I'm with you."
"Thanks, Aly." Oliver said. He looked over to the mirror. He couldn't help but admire himself again. The way he looked, the way he felt. He even noticed he was sitting a little more feminine than he usually would.
"Is this your first time dressing up?" Alyssa asked.
Oliver nodded. "I've thought about it a few times, but the last week, whatever these feelings are have gotten stronger. I saw your skirt on the radiator when I was having breakfast and... well..."
"I hate that it looks better on you than on me, to be honest." Alyssa laughed. "Mum and Dad won't be home until tonight, if you wanted to try on some more stuff? I've got loads of things that I think would suit you."
Oliver shrugged. "I don't know."
"Come on, you aren't gonna figure this out if you don't experiment more." Alyssa said. She was right, and as much as Oliver wanted to, he also needed some time to process everything.
"Thanks, but not right now." He said.
"The offer is always there, Oli. Feel free to keep what you're wearing, although you can give me my shoes back." Alyssa said. Oliver moved to the end of the bed and untied the Converse, putting them to the side.
"Could you... Could you not tell Mum and Dad about this yet?" Oliver asked. He knew she wouldn't, but he also knew Alyssa was terrible at keeping secrets. She had, on several occasions, ruined surprises because she wasn't able to keep her mouth shut.
Alyssa smiled at him. "I know I've got a big mouth, but I get how important this is to you. You can tell them when you're ready, sis."
Oliver couldn't help but grin as Alyssa called him sis. "Thank you." He gave his sister a hug, something which he had never done before, before he left and went back to his room. He threw himself onto his bed, his head spinning with everything that had happened. He lay there for several hours, only bouncing up when he heard his parents come home. He quickly took everything off and put his pyjamas back on before went downstairs to greet them.
