— CHAPTER TWELVE!
'CHOCOLATE CHIP PANCAKES'
✩ irl!
JULES WOKE UP in livs bed, wearing the clothes liv helped her change into the night before. she sat up in the bed, squeezing her eyes shut and rubbing her forehead before standing up.she walked down the stairs of the house slowly, smelling something coming from the kitchen. she looked at the person standing at the stove, immediately freezing as she noticed exactly who it was.
matt stood there, holding the pans handle and a spatula in the other hand as he watched the chocolate chip pancakes cook on the pan. she moved quickly and sat at the counter, looking around the house to see if anyone else was awake.
matt turned around as he heard a stool move on the counter, his eyes widening slightly as he saw who it was. he stood there, unsure of what he could say to her in the morning without it sounding awkward and without making conversation.
"morning." he says sternly, his eyes not leaving her as she avoided his gaze, making him kind of disappointed but not showing it.
"good morning." she says quietly, making sure she didn't look at him on accident. her hood fell of her head, making some strands of her curly hair frame her face. they stayed there for a minute, basically frozen in place until jules spoke up "i think your pancake is burning."
matt immediately turned around, cursing under his breath as he looked at the black pancake on the pan. he sighed and threw it in the trash can, putting more batter on the pan from the blender.
anytime one of them was hungover after the party, matt made chocolate chip pancakes. there was obviously always a fight formed by chris who wanted waffles, but he was rarely the hungover one, so matt refused to make them. the only reason he really started making the pancakes was because about a couple months before they had started dating, jules said her hangover food was chocolate chip pancakes, and that stuck with him ever since.
jules sat there quietly, praying and hoping that somebody else would wake up and join her so they could get rid of the awkward silence. but in reality, she was too hungover to hold a conversation for more than two minutes.
eventually, chris woke up from the couch and sat down next to her, letting out a small groan at what matt was making but not protesting because there wasn't a point — which was a surprise because he could fight about anything for hours — or even days on end.
they all sat there in silence, being more comfortable now that chris was there and him and matt were having a conversation meanwhile jules sat there with her head down on the counter.
"chris, go wake everyone up. the pancakes are ready." matt says, putting the last pancake on the stack of pancakes he had on another plate.
as chris was getting up, jules put her hand on his shoulder, making him sit back down. "i'll do it." she says, getting up quickly and walking into the guest room to wake up liv and isaac, then going into every other room to wake the rest of the people up.
chris and matt exchanged estranged, but knowing looks. she came back with eli, liv, nick, mia, isaac, bella, and aria.
"i tried to get the others and they all yelled at me, so they won't eat." jules says, grabbing a pancake and starting to eat it plain as she usually did, which always annoyed the shit out of matt for some reason.
he just sighed and shook his head, handing everyone plates and sitting at the dining table. jules sat down at the end of the table, and matt sat at the other end. somehow, they always ended up sitting across from each other, it was weird.
she looked down at the table as she ate the pancake in her hand. "juli- i mean, juliana." a voice calls out, making her stop her movements and look up at matt. she hadn't heard the nickname 'julie' in months, let alone get called it considering he'd called her it since they were little.
"what?" she asks, putting the pancake on the table and looking at him, trying her best not to stare too long
"for the love of god, will you get a plate? it pisses me off when you do that." he says, basically staring daggers at her. she shakes her head, looking away from him.
"no, i'm good like this." she says, looking back at him now and tilting her head, which only made him roll his eyes and look away from her, tutting silently.
and that was their first interaction in months. although she wished it had lasted longer, he still acknowledged her, but she didn't know how that made her feel.
did she feel happy? sad? uncomfortable? god, she could've said she felt harassed from how dramatic she is. she didn't like the fluttering feeling her heart had, the same feeling she had anytime she looked at him or he looked at her when they were together. it wasn't all new, it felt normal, but it wasn't normal. it shouldn't be there.
"what the fuck? you guys made pancakes and didn't think to wake me up?" ezra says, standing at the doorway of the dining room.
jules rolls her eyes at him, staring at him "i fucking shook you awake twice and you almost kicked me. so no, you don't get food."
he groans and brings a chair from the kitchen, sitting in a corner of the table. after a few hours, mia, eli, aria, mateo, ezra, bella, and riley had left. leaving the triplets, liv, jules, and isaac in liv's living room.
isaac and liv were playing just dance, yelling at each other at times and then giggling, the triplets were trying funny filters on tiktok and laughing, and jules was listening to gracie abrams new album quietly in the corner of the couch.
she could barely focus on the lyrics of 'blowing smoke' as she rewinded the memory from this morning in her head over and over. she stupidly let the memories get the better of her, causing her to zone out into the couch.
she was quickly snapped out of her trance as she heard the lyrics 'if she's got a pulse, she meets your standards now.", which for some reason had her deep in thought.
she knew for a fact matt had a type, and that type was not chloe. well, at least she thought it wasn't. she was the complete opposite, personality and appearance wise, and if matt liked chloe then what chance did jules have? because of course, she wasn't over him and it showed. she just couldn't tell him that.
she looked over at him laughing with his brothers, how did he look so happy, how could he not care?. maybe it was because he got a "new girl", and if he was happy that way, then what if jules was happy with a new guy?
