After an awkward drive to the scene. we pull up.
I see a police officer with a notepad out.
In a normal circumstance if I was feeling nervous I would look to Mohammed for reassurance but after what happened in the car today I don't think I can meet his eyes right now.
I slowly stepped out of the car and walked toward the officer with Mohammed following closely behind me.
As we reached the scene, my gaze landed on a black boy with glasses, who seemed to be playing the role of the police officer. Despite his youthful appearance, there was an air of authority about him as he wrote notes on his notepad, issuing instructions and taking notes in a professional manner. His serious expression and confident demeanor shone beneath his tough exterior.
He looked familiar...
Daniel??
I recognized that concentrated look from anywhere. I used to tease him about it.
We didn't leave things on the best foot if anything I'd say he led me on made me feel like a discarded piece of crumpled-up paper. and then just distanced himself like we never had a friendship.
yeah, I remember Daniel.
Daniel glanced up from his notepad, his eyes twinkling with recognition. "Rania," he replied, his tone guarded yet polite. "It's been a while."
I nodded, trying to maintain a facade of confidence. "Yeah, it has."
He cleared his throat, shifting his focus to the matter at hand. "So, about the crash. Are you okay? Any injuries?"
Before I could respond, Mohammed interjected, his voice steady. "Yeah, she had a head injury. I helped her with that"
Daniel nodded, jotting down the information. "And were you under the influence of any substances at the time of the crash?"
I chuckled softly, leaning closer to Mohammed. "No, officer. Just high on life... and maybe a little intoxicated by the charm of my sexy boyfriend," I teased sarcastically emphasizing the word 'boyfriend' for Daniel's benefit.
As Daniel continued his line of questioning, I couldn't help but inject playful flirtation into my responses, each word aimed at making him jealous.
"Were you with anyone at the time of the crash?" he inquired, his tone probing.
''No, but if I was I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have crashed the car his charisma keeps me going I never stop''... I reply with a mischievous grin as I grab the back pocket of Mohammed's jeans.
''Um okay... ''Daniel's voice tinged with hurt.
Daniel's eyebrow quirked in surprise, but he pressed on. "Are you sure you have a valid driver's license, Rania?"
I chuckled softly, leaning closer to Mohammed. "Oh, I'm sure of many things, officer. Like how lucky I am to have a boyfriend who knows exactly how to drive me wild," I whispered, emphasizing the word 'boyfriend' for Daniel's benefit.
Mohammed seemed amused by what was happening.
Daniel responded with a hint of annoyance in his voice ''answer the question''
I rolled my eyes and with attitude, I said ''of course I do how do u think you found me huh? my driver's license is in the car''
The air was filled with nostalgia. memories. he definitely lost out on me. and I wanted to prove that to him right here and right now.
"Thanks for your concern, officer," I said with a playful wink. "But I think I'll stick with my sexy boyfriend. Some people are just better at... handling things." With that, I leaned in to kiss Mohammed passionately, leaving Daniel dumbfounded
I knew I hurt him. it was written all over his face. he was sore and filled from head to toe with regret but I didn't care. ha, He thought. The regret practically oozed from him, like he just realized he missed out on the last piece of cake at a birthday party. But hey, who could blame him? After all, he had a front-row seat to witness me planting one on Mohammed, leaving him standing there . And as I sauntered away with Mohammed, hand in hand, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of satisfaction – a little reminder to Daniel that I was no longer his discarded piece of crumpled-up paper. Oh no, I was living my best life now...
I triumphantly shot Daniel one last glance before I took Mohammed's hand and walked back over to the car we came in with Octavian and Teim.
