In the dead of winter as the snow falls heavenly, Scarlett walks the halls of the kingdom halls of Ember Castle. As she walks down the hall, she saw Sebastian sitting in his room like usual with his leg crossed over the other in the dimly lit room.

While she sneaks by his room, she stumbled upon an old, empty room — an old library.
Dusty books, chairs, lamps.
But as she walked closer towards the window, the moonlight glowed with a white glow around an old trunk that hadn't been touched in decades; she opened it, a low creak sound came from the trunk, Scarlett looked down closely.

She'd kneeled down to get a closer look at what was inside. She moved an old book, papers, and documents out of the trunk, but as she gotten towards the end of the trunk, she found a letter — a letter to Sebastian that was only opened once, it was already opened before.

Maybe perhaps he had opened it before, she thought, her mind wondering if she should open it herself. I don't think I should.... she thought again, shaking her head as she stumbled back into the lamp behind her.

She gasped.

"S-sebastian!"
She muttered, as she looked at him slowly dropping the letter.

"What are you doing in here? You know you shouldn't be-" Scarlett interrupted him as she glared.

"What? Be in here?!" Scarlett yelled, holding a letter that was written to him. "What is this, huh? Are you hiding something from me? Sebastian. Answer me!"

Her mouth was open, her breathing unsettling as she crumbled up the letter. Sebastian sighed as he snatched the letter from her hands. "It's nothing, nothing you need to worry about anyway," his cold voice echoed through the room. "You're too young to know..." Sebastian added.

"I'm going to find out one day — and when I do, you'll be sorry you didn't tell me," Scarlett said, adding a heat of tension in the room when leaving.

A month later has passed, Scarlett was in the garden picking some flowers for her mother's grave. Her mother liked purple roses and dandelions — they were here favorite. They were also her father's favorite.

When she finished picking out the flowers for her mother's grave, Sebastian, her bodyguard, was waiting at the back door for her.
A small tear escaped from her eyes to her cheek, signaling signs of sadness, anger, and fear — that she had now begun preparing for the worst.

She'd realized what she had done a month prior before the attack of her mother. She looked up at him with a weak smile, letting him know that she was ready to go to the funeral.
