After waking up groggy and disoriented, Anna found a note from her mother saying Axel had returned to school after taking care of her. The next day, as she tried to focus on her studies, Anna opened her phone to find messages from both Axel and Zean. She opened Zean's message first:

"Anna, can we meet up? I really need to talk to you."

Anna's heart sank. She knew this conversation had been inevitable. They agreed to meet at a nearby café that afternoon.

When they met, Zean looked relieved but nervous. He reached out to hold her hands. "Anna, I've missed you so much."

Anna pulled her hands away gently, her expression serious. "Zean, we need to talk."

Zean's smile faded. "Okay, what's on your mind?"

Anna took a deep breath, trying to find the right words. "Zean, when I fainted at school, you weren't there. You didn't check on me. It felt like you didn't care."

Zean looked surprised. "Oh, Anna, I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't know how to react. Are you okay now?"

Anna felt her frustration building. "Zean, that's exactly what I mean. 'Oh'? That's all you have to say? You didn't even ask if I was okay, or try to find out what happened."

Zean looked down, his expression pained. "Anna, I do care about you. I want us to be together again."

Anna shook her head sadly. "Zean, I appreciate that, but I can't go back to how things were. I need to feel like I matter to you."

Zean nodded slowly, his voice filled with regret. "I understand, Anna. I'm sorry."

Anna wiped her tears, feeling the weight of her decision. "Me too, Zean. I'm sorry."

They sat in silence for a moment, both of them processing the end of their relationship. Anna knew it was the right decision, even though it hurt.

Later that evening, as Anna went home and opened her phone, she saw Axel's message. Her heart skipped a beat as she read his concerned words:

"Anna, I just wanted to check in on you. Are you okay? Did you sleep well? Let me know if you need anything."

As she scrolled through her messages, she realized that Axel had been frantically checking up on her every minute and hour. His concern was palpable, contrasting sharply with Zean's distant response.

Tears welled up in Anna's eyes as she realized the depth of Axel's care for her. She felt a surge of gratitude and warmth toward him. She picked up her phone and replied to him:

"Thank you, Axel. I'm okay now. Your concern means a lot to me."

Within minutes, Axel replied.

"Of course, Anna. I'm glad you're feeling better. Let me know if you need anything else."

Anna smiled softly, feeling a sense of comfort in Axel's words. She knew that she was lucky to have him as a friend, someone she could rely on no matter what.

As the weeks passed and final exams approached, Anna found herself spending more and more time with Axel. They studied together in the library late into the night, quizzing each other on difficult concepts and supporting one another through the stress of exams.

Axel's patience and understanding never wavered. He was always there to lend a helping hand, whether it was explaining a complicated formula or simply offering a reassuring smile when Anna felt overwhelmed. She appreciated his calm demeanor and the way he could make her laugh even in the most stressful moments.
