Connie reached the other side of the wall gap, poking her head out to glance around. Virginia nervously fidgeted behind her. She was unsure what Connie was doing; what she was looking for. The company of her was more agreeable than walking around alone once again, and she was fond of her convictions towards the situation. She seemed to know what to do, Virginia had simply wandered around in distress before her. She trusted her. Connie emerged from the gap and looked to her left, spotting a old bunker style door. It was blue, encrusted with blood and rust, its appearance didn't bother her however; it was what she was hoping for. Rubbing her hands together she approached the door heading up a few creaky steps, touching the door's lock system. Virginia stood back in silence still as Connie fiddled with the lock for what seemed like well over a minute. Virginia's questioning eyes met Connie's as she turned away from the door.
"Obviously we get out by a door, I don't need to tell you that. I was just seeing what lock system it has."
"Why?"
"I can lockpick it if I find something that'll fit. It's just a case of knocking out key pins to the right height, just applying pressure to it really. Then we can open it, you can go call the police about your son."
"You're not leaving?" Virginia questioned nervously.
"I'm not leaving without my friends, I don't know if they're in trouble." Connie was certain of that, she would not step foot out of the building without her friends. They came here together so they were bound to also be trapped in the labyrinth-esque home. Everything looked the same in the basement, it felt suffocating.
Virginia nodded slowly, "you don't want to put yourself in danger. We can get through this together, you should leave with me."
"I just can't. Minutes count. And Maria, though she's probably not even here we need to look."
"They never found Jesse back then, they hardly tried. He just upped and left according to them. I don't know..."
Connie stepped away from the door and went back down the stairs towards Virginia.
"Police corruption for you, and laziness. But they can't deny blood on you and two reports once me and my friends get out."
"Jesse's car is here too, it is his. That's more reason for them to check. Oh Jesse, my boy..."
Connie concealed her worry. It would be fine sending Virginia to get the police, if they had just simply gotten lost trespassing. But they didn't, people hurt Virginia, and someone strung Connie up. They were far from alone, it was just a case of lying low. If she could open the door and send Virginia up then she could go find her friends, a more pressing matter than escape for her. However the information about Virginia's son both intrigued her and troubled her, Maria may not be here but her son must of been. She saw this as an opportunity to learn more but also help calm Virginia further, she was definitely in a better state than before already.
"If you don't mind me asking, how did he go missing?" Connie started walking around, rooting in boxes strewn across tables, looking for anything of use.
"Oh I can tell you... it was years ago. He just vanished, took his car and left. He had only just got his licence... that's why everyone thought he just upped and left to cut himself a new life, but I just don't believe that. He loved me deeply I know he did, he never showed signs of wanting to branch out his education or work or anything. Just gone." She paused to wipe her eyes, "... maybe he did leave but why wouldn't he say goodbye? I always thought maybe he intended on going somewhere for a few days and coming back and then something happened. This happened? I don't know."
