One of us wants to eat, one of us is going to be swallowed up in little pieces.

—Hélène Cixous, The Love of the Wolf

When a young witch arrives, claiming be a sole survivor of a coven burned on the Oregon Trail, rumors are set ablaze too. Some believe that the girl is a spy sent by vampires. Others believe she is runaway daughter who wronged her coven. Most believe her in her delicately fabricated story. None know of the truth.

It is much, much darker than any New Orleanians would've conjuring up in their promenade gossip.

Theodora Prim was born hungry. From her very first breath, she could feel magic all around her, taunting her. And yet, when asked to perform, she could not. It isn't uncommon for a Gemini witch to be born without the ability to practice, but every few generations, something else is born. She becomes cunning this way, lying through her teeth from her twelfth birthday to her twentieth.

When her coven finds what she had hidden under silk gloves all these years, Theadora runs for the hills and they lead her to the newly flourishing city of New Orleans.

She hasn't come for sanctuary-- no--the Louisiana city isn't known for that. She has come for magic. Eight years hungry, Theadora Prim is starved.

And for what she knows will come for her, she must be fed.

When the city finally lies to rest, Theadora is restless. She spends her nights taking the magic she was never given from those she deems unworthy. By day, she is a friend to the covens of New Orleans.

Her first mistake is the death of Alain Claire. He was never supposed to die and Thea was never supposed to frame Kol Mikaelson for it, but fate has a cruel way about it.

In a matter of days, the original vampire has uncovered her plot to turn witch against witch. He should've killed her then and there. Instead, he offers her a deal.

Enough power to keep her past at bay in exchange for the magic needed to put Klaus Mikaelson down.

Their alliance is held only by the thread of necessity. Kol has tread far too deep into his brother's games. To go back now would be to accept the dagger in his heart, so he moves onward. She signs her name in blood on his page and they begin their coup to overthrow the mighty King of the Crescent City.

The war between Mikaelson's isn't anticipated in Theadora's plans and just as quickly as her past comes for her, everything she's built seems to catch fire.

She is sure that the only winners of the war to come are the gravediggers and vultures, but she too will feast on rotten blood if it means she lives to curse this city one last time . . .
